Abstract: The viscosity of aqueous printing inks for gravure printing is adjusted by means of partially organophilic gels which contain plastics mixtures of at least one polymer swelling in water and at least one polymer not swelling in water or to an insignificant extent only, in a solvent mixture of at least two hydrophilic organic hydroxy compounds and one hydrophobic organic hydroxy compound. The printing inks prepared with the aid of the thickener mixtures of the invention contain up to 90% of water, and can be handled as textile printing pastes. Gravure printing inks on the basis of such plastics gels containing disperse dyestuffs are suitable for the manufacture of transfer printing paper sheets. Since the thickening system adjusting the viscosity contains aqueous alcohols, if any, and no solvents as usual in transfer printing inks, no special measures have to be taken with respect to flammability and explosion risks.

Abstract: 1. A process for producing white of colored patterns by discharge resist technique on a differently colored ground of textile sheet-like structures made of or containing hydrophobic synthetic fibers, in particular polyester fibers, by applying, in any order and with overlap, to the undyed cloth (i) at least one aqueous print paste which contains a discharge resist, non-coloring by oneself, and may also contain at least one hot-fixable dyestuff, in particular a disperse dyestuff, which is resistant to the diacharging and resisting agents, in the desired pattern and as background coloring, (ii) one or more, different aqueous print pastes or an aqueous padding liquor which each contain a dyestuff formulation of at least one hot-fixable dischargeable or resistable dyestuff, in particular a disperse dyestuff, and may also contain at least one hot-fixable dyestuff, in particular a disperse dyestuff, which is resistant to the discharging and resisting agents, subsequently exposing the textile material thus treated to the action of heat at temperatures of 150 degrees C to 230 degrees C, and then removing unfixed dyestuff and auxiliary residues by washing off, which comprises employing, as discharging and resisting agents in the print paste for the discharge resist patterns (i), mixtures of the following components : (a) hydrazino derivatives of arylcarboxylic, aralkylcarboxylic, arylsulfonic or aralkylsulfonic acids or salts thereof, preferably those which, in their free acid form and also free base form, have the general formula see diagramm : EP0142012,P6,F2 in which _n denotes a number from 1 to 3, X represents a group of the formula -COOH, -CH2 COOH, -SO3 H or -CH2 SO3 H where multiple X is identical or different, and in which the aromatic ring system can, if desired, contain fused-on further rings and/or can be substituted by non-ionic radicals, (b) polyalkylene glycols, preferably polyethylene glycols, of the general formula HO-(CH2 -CH2 O)m -H(B) in which _m denotes a number up to 100 and (c) nitrogen compounds of the general formula Ya N(CH2 -CH2 -OH)b (C) in which _a is not equal to _b and each is zero or a number between 1 and 3, provided _a+_b is always 3, and in which Y denotes a hydrogen atom or a low alkyl group, in particular -CH3 , -C2 H5 , -C3 H7 or -C4 H9 , multiple Y being identical or different.

Abstract: In the conventional discharge printing on polyamide fiber materials using acid dyes, above all, the very low wet and light fastness properties of the designs obtained in this manner are frequently an obstacle to the wide expansion of this interesting technique in practice. Applying this known patterning method for wool or nylon to resist prints made with reactive dyes being distinguished by better fastness level, does not always produce satisfactory white resist effects when, for example, sulfite compounds as the resist agent and reactive dyes having esterified beta -hydroxyethylsulfonyl groups as the reactive radical are taken into consideration; colored effects having a bright hue are not even possible at all in various cases. It has now been found that, using sulfite compounds and reactive dyes of the vinylsulfonyl type, the above mentioned difficulties can be remedied when, instead of the ester derivatives of said dyestuffs, according to this invention such dyes which have been converted before they are applied into the free vinylsulfonyl form, are brought to interaction with the preprinted resist agent to become immediately and completely desactivated and thus resulting unobjectionable resist effects at the respective places of the textile material.
