Abstract: An article of manufacture comprising a substrate which is coated with a primer and a second coating adhering to the primer. The primer comprising as an essential ingredient an epoxy resin modified by acetoacetic ester groups which may also contain chemically bound metal atoms as a chelate. The cover layer contains a homo- or a copolymer of a fluorine-containing vinyl monomer having up to two fluorine atoms or a combination of such polymers.

Abstract: Single-layer coatings are based on a mixt. of (A) a synthetic polymerisation addn. or condensn. resin, and (B) a hono- and/or co-polymer of vinyl monomers with =4, pref. =2, F atoms, in which (A) is hardened at =30 degrees C, by (a) oxidative drying, (b) physical drying, (c) cross-linking of a 2-component system, (d) acid-hardening (e) high-energy radiation, or (f) a combination of at least two of (a) to (e) without soln. or melting of component (B). Used to provide protective coatings on wood, ceramics, glass, concrete, plastics or esp. on metals, in vehicles, and ship-building, on components exposed to fuels and solvents, household equipment, electrical components and thermally-stressed articles. Excellent adhesion is obtd. without application of primers or intermediates layers. The coatings can be deformed e.g by deep-drawing, profiling, embossing, etc. and show high resistance to weather and chemicals.
