Abstract: In the parent patent a coating is prepd. in two steps by coating a substrate with a solvent contg. filler lacquer comprising a OH gp.-contg. oligomeric and/or polymeric cpd. (I) and are crosslinker (II) a trimellitic acid contg. polycarboxylic acid mixt. and opt. other conventional additives, hardening until water resistant, electro-dip coating with another lacquer and hardening both layers. The ratio of (I):(II) is 50:50-90:10. In this patent of addn. (I) is a hydroxy gp.-contg. epoxy and/or acrylic resin opt. mixed with OH gp. contg. polyesters. Coatings prepd. from the epoxy resin have improved chemical and mechanical properties such as hydrolysis-, impact- and corrosion resistance and adhesion strength.

Abstract: Preparation of heat-curable, water-dilutable coating compositions based on (A) epoxy resins free from amino groups, (B) an aqueous dispersion or solution of saturated polyester resins or the modification products thereof with oils, (C) organic cross-linking agents and optionally (D) pigments and/or conventional adjuvants, in specific proportions, these components being processed together in one or more stages, while being comminuted from their original particle size, to form a homogeneous coating composition which has a particle size of less than 100 mu m, and the use of the coating compositions thus obtained as coating agents, particularly for coating metal substrates, by the use of current-free methods of application or electrostatic spraying.

Abstract: In road marking paint based on acrylic resins, up to 50% and pref. 20-30% of the binder comprises polystyrene or a copolymer of styrene with up to 50% of a mono-olefinic comonomer, this (co)polymer having an average mol. wt. of >=20,000. Opt. pigmented polystyrene waste or foamed polystyrenes are pref. although copolymers with monomers such as acrylonitrile, butadiene, styrene etc. are also suitable. The paint dries more rapidly than corresp. systems not contg. polystyrene. The paint has good sub-and weathering-resistance and can be pigmented in the same way as systems without polystyrene.
