    Abstract: A cathodically separable aq. electrodipping lacquer compsn. contains (A) a synthetic resin binder contg. amino gps., which can be made water-sol. or water-dispersible by protonisation with acids, and a cross-linking agent (B) reacting on baking, as well as opt. pigments, corrosion inhibitors, anti-crater agents, lacquer auxiliaries and binders, plasticisers, catalysts and organic solvents. (A) The component contains 90-50%, w.r.t. total resin binder, of a polycondensation, polymerisation and/or polyaddn. resin, with Mn 700-10,000, 1.2-21.7 x 10 power(23) lateral or terminal C=C bonds w.r.t. 1,000 g, corresp. to a hydrogenation iodine number of 5-90, opt. prim. and/or sec. OH gps., corresp. to OH number of 0-450 mg KOH/g resin, and tert. amino gps. corresp. to 30-450 mg KOH/g resin. (B) The component contains 10-50% of cpds. with methane tricarboxylic acid amide gps. of formula (I) with at least 2 gps. with active H, and derived from a reaction prod. of a mono- or poly-isocyanate and a malonic acid deriv., and contg. as further component (C) 0-10% of capped di- and/or poly-isocyanates.

    Abstract: Polymers that contain terminal amino groups and moieties of the formula (I) a process for preparing the polymers by (a) reacting in a first step a hydroxyl-containing ester of an alpha , beta -olefinically unsaturated monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid and a dihydric alcohol with a diisocyanate, the equivalence ratio of NCO to OH groups being greater than 1:1, (b) polymerizing the reaction product of (a) alone or in mixture with at least one olefinically unsaturated polymerizable monomer by free-radical polymerization, (c) decarboxylating the polymer into the ammonium salt, and then neutralizing the resulting product and their use in 2-component finishes that crosslink by means of crosslinking agents.

(A) is polymer of alpha, beta-unsatd. monomer contg. hydroxy- or amino-ester of olefinically unsatd. carboxylic acid, a polyaminopolyamide from dimerised fatty acid and a polyamine, or an aminopolyether-polyol from an epoxide resin and a prim. or sec. amine, Water-sol. solvent is lower alcohol or ketone, partic. MeOH, EtOH, iso-PrOH, acetone, or ethyl methyl ketone.

    Abstract: Process for preparing copolymers from esters of an unsaturated carboxylic acid with at least one other unsaturated monomer, characterized in that the following components are copolymerized in radical substance polymerization: (A) 5 to 60 parts by weight of at least one diester of an alpha , beta -olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid having 1 to 8 carbon atoms in the ester group, (B) 10 to 70 parts by weight of at least one vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon having one vinyl group, (C) 0 to 30 parts by weight of at least one glycidyl ester of an aliphatic saturated monocarboxylic acid branched in the alpha -position, (D) 0 to 50 parts by weight of at least one ester, amide and/or anhydride of an alpha , beta -olefinically unsaturated mono- and/or dicarboxylic acid, (E) 0 to 40 parts by weight of at least one alpha , beta -olefinically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid, the sum of components (A) to (E) being 100 parts by weight, whilst at least a part of component (A) is at first introduced into the reaction vessel alone or in combination with at least a part of component (C) and a mixture of component (B) with at least one of components (D) and (E) and any remaining parts of components (A) and/or (C) is added in batches at 140 DEG to 200 DEG C. together with a radical initiator, alone or in conjunction with a regulator, and if component (C) is present, at least an equimolar quantity of component (E) is used; and the use of the products thus obtained as binders for the preparation of coating compositions.
