Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a resistive current limiter suitable for the frequent appearance of short-circuit currents by forming the limiter by a high temperature superconductive material as a hollow cylinder. CONSTITUTION: A uniform melt is formed from a stoichiometric oxide mixture and a melt having temperature >900 deg.C is allowed to flow into a rotating casting band. A compact solidified as a cylindrical body is extracted and cut off from a gap 5 formed so as to be extended in parallel with the axis of the cylindrical body and plural slits 1 is cut off in parallel with the gap 5. Finally the cylindrical body is heated at 700 to 900 deg.C in oxygen containing atmosphere for 150 hours to manufacture a hollow cylinder. The hollow cylinder is conductively connected to a current leading-in conductor 3 within a range between the gap 5 and the slit 1 existing just on the right side of the gap 5 and connected to a current leading-out conductor 4 within a range between the gap 5 and the slit 1 existing just on the left side of the conductor 5.

Abstract: In a process for producing a high-temperature superconductor and moldings formed therefrom, comprising oxides of bismuth, strontium, calcium, copper and optionally of lead as well as sulfates of strontium and/or barium, the oxides of bismuth, strontium, calcium, copper and optionally of lead in the desired molar ratio, as well as additionally from 2 to 30% by weight of strontium sulfate and/or from 1 to 20% by weight of barium sulfate, each calculated according to the mixture of the oxides, are mixed intimately, the mixture is melted in a crucible of a platinum metal at temperatures from 870 to 1600.degree.C, the melt is poured into permanent molds of desired form and size and is allowed to solidify slowly therein, and the moldings produced are freed from the permanent mold material and are annealed for from 6 to 200 hours at temperatures from 700 to 900.degree.C in an oxygen-containing atmosphere.

Abstract: A resistive current limiter takes the form of a hollow cylinder and is composed of high-temperature superconducting material. In this connection, the high-temperature superconducting material may be a polynary oxide. To produce said resistive current limiter, a homogeneous melt is prepared from an oxide mixture, suitable for forming high-temperature superconductors, in a specified stoichiometry and said melt is allowed to run, at temperatures above 900 DEG C., into a casting zone which rotates about its horizontal axis. The molding, solidified as a cylinder, is removed from the casting zone. The cylinder is sawn so as to produce a gap extending parallel to its axis. Furthermore, a multiplicity of slits are sawn into the cylinder parallel to the gap. Finally, the cylinder is heat-treated for up to 150 hours at 700 DEG to 900 DEG C. in an oxygen-containing atmosphere.

Abstract: The invention relates to a high-temperature superconductor composed of the oxides of bismuth, strontium, calcium and copper and, optionally, of lead, and having the composition Bi2-a+b+c Pba (Sr, Ca)3-b-c Cu2+d Ox, where a=0 to 0.7; b+c=0 to 0.5; d=-0.1 to 0.1 and x=7 to 10 and a Sr:Ca ratio of 2.8:1 to 1:2.8 as well as of strontium and/or barium sulfates. Said superconductor can be prepared by intimately mixing the oxides of bismuth, strontium, calcium and copper and optionally of lead with strontium and/or barium sulfates, melting the mixture by heating to temperatures of 870 to 1300 degrees C., higher temperatures being required for higher strontium and/or barium sulfate contents, pouring the melt into molds and allowing it to solidify slowly therein and subjecting the moldings removed from the molds to a heat treatment at temperatures of 700 to 900 degrees C. in an oxygen-containing atmosphere.
