Abstract: 1383145 Trifluoroacetyl chloride HOECHST AG 24 Jan 1973 [25 Jan 1972] 3540/73 Heading C2C Trifluoroacetyl chloride is prepared by passing a gaseous mixture of CF 3 COF, a chlorohydrocarbon which is capable of being fluorinated, HCl and, if desired, HF over a chromium oxyfluoride catalyst at a temperature of 100- 350 C. and isolating the CF 3 COCl from the reaction mixture. Preferably the gaseous mixture contains 0À5-5 moles of the chlorohydrocarbon calculated on the sum of the molar quantities of CF 3 COF and HF in the mixture. The chlorohydrocarbon preferably has 1 to 3 C atoms and at least two Cl atoms bonded to one carbon atom, e.g. CCl 4 . The preferred temperature range is 170-250 C.

Abstract: of the disclosure: Hexafluoroacetone is prepared by a rearrangement of hexafluoropropene epoxide at an elevated temperature in the presence of hydrogen fluoride as a catalyst and, if appropriate, also as a solvent. In many cases the solution of hexafluoroacetone in hydrogen fluoride obtained in this process can be directly employed without further working-up or purification in further reactions of hexafluoroacetone, for example with phenol and/or o-cresol.
