    Abstract: 1383145 Trifluoroacetyl chloride HOECHST AG 24 Jan 1973 [25 Jan 1972] 3540/73 Heading C2C Trifluoroacetyl chloride is prepared by passing a gaseous mixture of CF 3 COF, a chlorohydrocarbon which is capable of being fluorinated, HCl and, if desired, HF over a chromium oxyfluoride catalyst at a temperature of 100- 350‹ C. and isolating the CF 3 COCl from the reaction mixture. Preferably the gaseous mixture contains 0À5-5 moles of the chlorohydrocarbon calculated on the sum of the molar quantities of CF 3 COF and HF in the mixture. The chlorohydrocarbon preferably has 1 to 3 C atoms and at least two Cl atoms bonded to one carbon atom, e.g. CCl 4 . The preferred temperature range is 170-250‹ C.
