    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound insensitive to oxygen and/or sulfur and not hydrolyzed under hydroformylation conditions or having complex characteristics. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I [R -R are each independently H, a 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, a 2-4C alkenyl, etc.; (m), (n) are each independently 0, 1 wherein [(m)+(n)] is 1 or 2; R is not substituted or is phenyl or naphthyl which may be substituted with a 1-4C alkyl, etc.,], e.g. 2,2'-bis(phenoxymethyl)-1,1'-binaphthyl. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II (A is OH, etc.,) with a compound of formula III [B is a releasable group: Z (Cl, Br, I, etc.,), when A is OH, or B is OH, when A is the releasable group Z] in a molar ratio of 1:(2-2.2) in the presence of a base and in an organic solvent inactive under the reaction conditions, in the presence (absence) of a phase transfer catalyst and water at 10-100 deg.C. The compound of formula I can exhibit an effect as a hydroformylation catalyst for the production of aldehyde compounds.

SOLUTION: (C) A 2-20C olefinic compound is reacted with (D) carbon monoxide and (E) hydrogen in the presence (or absence) of (B) a solvent in the presence of (A) a catalyst comprising (A1 ) rhodium and (A2 ) a compound represented by formula I [R is H or a 1-12C alkyl; R is a 1-8C straight-chain alkylene, a 2-4C oxygen-containing alkylene, a group represented by formula II or III or a 3-10C cycloalkylene; R is a 1-25C alkyl or a 6-10C aryl; A is COO or SO3 ; (x), (y), (m) and (n) are as follows: (x)=0, (y)=(m)=(n)=1;(x)=(y)=1 and (m) and (n) are each 1 or 2 or (x) is 1; (y) is 0 and (m) and (n) are each 0 or 1 when R is a group represented by formula II or III] at 50-190 deg.C temperature under 0.1-45MPa pressure and the resultant reactional product is then separated from the component A.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new diphosphine compound useful as e.g. a stabilizer, a raw material for the Wittig reagent, raw material for metal complex catalysts, by reaction between an amino group-bearing diphenylphosphine oxide, a dihalide and a base under specified conditions. SOLUTION: This compound, which is a new substituted diphenyldiphosphine compound of formula I [R is H or a 1-12C alkyl; R is a 1-8C alkylene, 2-4C oxygen-contg. alkylene, a group of formula II, 3-10C cycloalkylene, etc.; R is a 1-25C alkyl or 6-10C aryl; A is COO or SO3 ; (x)=0 and (y)=1 and (m)=1 and (n)=1, or (x)=1 and (y)=1 and (m)=1 or 2 and (n)=1 or 2, or, when R is a group of formula II, etc., (x)=1 and (y)=0 and (m)=0 or 1 and (n)=0 or 1], is useful as a stabilizer for olefins, a ligand for metal complex catalysts, etc. This new compound is obtained by reaction of a phosphine oxide of formula III or formula IV with a dihalide of the formula X-R -X (X is a halogen) and a base.
