    Abstract: Improved process for the preparation of tertiary phosphine oxides by reacting dialkyl phosphine oxides with Alpha olefins, wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of high-energy radiation. In comparison with known processes the tertiary phosphine oxides are obtained according to the instant process within a shorter reaction time, with higher purity and with higher yields. The reaction products can be used as intermediates, surfactants, detergents and cleaning agents, especially in cosmetic products.
