Abstract: In the parent patent, a pigment compsn. comprises an aryl-pararosaniline- sulphonic acid pigment of formula (I) (where R1-3 is H, Cl, Br, 1-3C alkyl or 1-3C alkoxy) and a water soluble resin (II) partially or completely neutralised with a N base and opt. an anionic or nonionic surfactant. (II) is a mixt. or partial reaction prod. of an addn. cpd. of 1 pt.wt. maleic anhydride with 3-6 pref. 3-4.5 pt.wt. unsatd. fatty acid contg. only isolated conjugated double bonds on a hydroxy gp. free polyol ester contg. such a polyester and a polyhydroxy cpd. (III) comprising a (cyclo)aliphatic polyol and low molecular, curable aminoplast at least partially etherified with prim. alcohols or polyols contg. at least one hydroxy gp. (I) and (II) are used in practically equivalent amts. with respect to the amts. of gps. present which can be esterified. In this addn., the (cyclo)aliphatic polyol can be used for (III) on its own. After drying, the moist pressed cakes are soft so that they can be easily ground and the prod. shows no tendency to agglomerate. The process can be carried out continuously. The compsn. can be dosed easily, is storage stable and strongly coloured. The prepn. can be used in aq. printing inks and aq. coating compsns. The printing inks can be used without foaming.

Abstract: Aryl-pararosaniline sulfonic acid pigments can be transformed into a pigment preparation having high tinctorial strength and being easily dispersible by dissolving them in aqueous alkali, adding a water-soluble synthetic resin (being a reaction product or mixture of (I) maleic anhydride addition product of an unsaturated fatty acid or fatty acid polyol ester, said addition product being partially esterified with a polyol, and (II) a low-molecular curable and partially etherified aminoplast and optionally an anionic or nonionic surfactant and precipitating the preparation with a mineral acid. These preparations are especially useful for pigmenting printing inks, carbon paper, duplicating papers and typewriter ribbons.
