    Abstract: 1355868 Naphthoylene-bis-benzimidazoles FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 6 Aug 1971 [8 Aug 1970] 37068/71 Heading C4P The invention comprises cis-naphthoylenebis-benzimidazole in the #-crystal modification characterized by an X-ray diffraction diagram obtained by Cu-Kα-irradiation showing maximums of high intensity at diffraction angles of 4À3, 6À65 and 13À45 degrees and maximums of medium intensity at 4À8, 12À1 and 14À45 degrees. The pigment has a surface area of 15 to 25 m 2 /g. It is prepared by heating a suspension of the α- crystal modification of cis-naphthoylene-bisbenzimidazole in water and/or an organic liquid to 100-250‹ C. and then separating the pigment obtained. The product dyes P.V.C. and colours lacquers in red shades.

Specified R groups are phenyl, tolyl, benzylphenyl, butylphenyl, nonylphenyl, diphenyl, naphthyl, anthracenyl, pyrenyl, ethyl, hexyl, dodecyl, cyclohexyl, hexahydrobenzyl, benzimidazoyl, pyridyl, quinolyl, benzoxazolyl and benzothiazolyl, which are either unsubstituted or are substituted by F, Cl, Br, OH, NO 2 , CN, CONH 2 , N(CH 3 ) 2 , OCH 3 , OC 2 H 5 , OC 6 H 5 , OC 4 H 9 , CHO, COCH 3 , CO 2 C 2 H 5 , CO 2 H, C 6 H 5 , OC 2 F 4 , SO 2 C 6 H 5 , 2 - hydroxyethoxy, 4 - chlorophenylsulphonyl, tetrazolyl or morpholinyl. The dyes are prepared by reacting a 4-chloro or bromo quinophthalone with either (a) RXH in the presence of an alkali, or RXMe (in which Me is alkali metal or a tert. amine radical).

    Abstract: Unsubstituted linear trans-quinacridone of the gamma-crystal modification is obtained by cyclization of 2,5-dianilino-terephthalic acid with the 2.5 to 4-fold quantity of polyphosphoric acid or of an acidic polyphosphoric acid methyl ester, followed by hydrolysis of the condensation product in water, intensive grinding of the aqueous crude quinacridone in the presence of an alcohol or ketone and heating of the resulting product to 80 DEG to 200 DEG C.

    Abstract: Quinacridone mixtures consisting of 85 to 99.5 percent by weight of one or several linear trans-quinacridones of the general formula WHEREIN R1 and R2 are identical or different and represent a hydrogen or halogen atom, an alkyl or alkoxy group having each 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an aryloxy, aryl, carbonamide or N-alkyl carbonamide group or which represent together the radical of an aromatic or heterocyclic ring, and 0.5 to 15 percent by weight of one or several linear trans-quinacridones of the general formula WHEREIN Y represents a straight-chained or branched alkyl or alkoxy radical having 6 to 18 carbon atoms, m and n are integers of from 0 to 1 and the sum of n and m being 1 or 2 and R1 and R2 having the meanings given above. These mixtures are obtained by mixing with one another starting compound or final products substituted accordingly during the process of preparation or formation and processing in the manner usual for quinacridones. As compared to the single components the mixture thereof is more transparent and has a better color intensity, a better dispersability and fluidity of the lacquers colored with them and frequently more brilliant shades.
