Abstract: 1,171,983. Polymer compositions containing anti-static oxazoline-alkylene oxide condensates. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 27 Jan., 1967 [28 Jan., 1966], No. 4244/67. Headings C3P and C3R. A composition comprises (1) a high molecular weight synthetic polymer and (2) an anti-static agent obtainable by reacting certain oxazoline compounds with alkylene oxide(s). The oxazoline compounds have the formula wherein R 1 is aliphatic, aryl or cycloaliphatic, hydrocarbon radical containing 3 to 20 carbon atoms, A is CH 2 , OCH 2 or SCH 2 , a is 0 or 1, R 2 is alkyl containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms or -(CH 2 ) y OH, where y is 1 to 3, and R 3 is -(CH 2 ) y OH. Up to 4% of component (2) may be present. Component (2) is prepared by reacting from 3 to 100 moles of the alkylene oxide(s) per mole of oxazoline compound. Specified classes of component (1) are polyolefins and polyesters. Conventional methods may be used for mixing the two components of the compositions, and conventional additives may also be present. In the Examples 1-24, polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and polyethyleneterephthalate are mixed with the reaction products of oxazolines in which R 1 -(A) a - = heptadecyl, α-ethylpentyl, naphthenyl, undecyl, heptoxymethylene, dodecylmercaptomethylene, and octyl, R 2 = ethyl, hydroxymethyl, and methyl, and R 3 = bydroxymethyl, with between 5 and 100 moles per mole of oxazoline of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide (Example 6) and ethylene oxide only (remaining examples).
