Novel compounds (I) in which R represents a dimethylamino, diethylamino, pyrrolidino or piperidino group are prepared: (a) by reacting a mono-thiosemicarbazone, Me.C( : X).CMe : NOH wherein X is the radical : N.NH.CSNH.CH 2 CH 2 CH 2 R or : N.NH.CSNHCH 2 CHMe 2 , with a thiosemicarbazide, H 2 N.NHGSNH.CH 2 CHMe 2 or H 2 N.NHCSNH(CH 2 ) 3 R; or (b) by reacting a mono-thiosemicarbazone, Me.C ( : X).CMe : N.NH 2 , with an isothiocyanate, S = C = N.CH 2 .CHMe 2 or S = C = N.(CH 2 ) 3 R. Interaction of diacetyl-dihydrazone and the appropriate isothiocyanate affords the following starting materials: diacetyl-mono-(3-dimethyl- or 3 - diethyl - aminopropyl - thiosemicarbazone) - mono - hydrazone, diacetyl - mono - isobutyl - thiosemicarbazone - mono - hydrazone and diacetyl - mono - (3 - pyrrolidino - or 3 - piperidino - propyl - thiosemicarbazone)- mono - hydrazone. Pharmaceutical compositions active against coccidiosis contain as the active ingredient the above novel compounds. Administration is by means of a foodstuff or drinking water.

Diacetyl - mono(2 - diethylaminoethyl - thiosemicarbazone)-monohydrazone is prepared either by reaction of equimolar quantities of diacetyldihydrazone and diethylaminoethyl mustard oil or of diacetyl monohydrazone monoxime and 2-diethylaminoethyl-thiosemicarbazide. Compositions having anti-coccidiosis activity and being in forms suitable for oral administration, for example, in food mixes, comprise an above novel compound and a carrier which may also contain vitamins and growth promotants such as antibiotics.

Novel bis-thiosemicarbazones of the formula wherein R is a diethylamino or piperidino group, and acid addition salts thereof are prepared by reacting (a) amono-thiosemicarbazone of the formula with the thiosemicarbazide of the formula or reacting the monothiosemicarbazone of the formula with the thio-semicarbazide of the formula H 2 NNHCSNHCH 2 CH 2 R optionally in the presence of an acid; or reacting (b) a mono-thiosemicarbazone VI of the formula with the mustard oil of the formula or reacting the mono-thiosemicarbazone of the formula with the mustard oil of the formula S = C = N-CH 2 -CH 2 -R and optionally isolating the base obtained from the salt by a method known per se or by treating the base with an acid. The mono-thiosemicarbazone-mono-oximes of the second formula above can be prepared by reaction of isonitrosoethyl-methyl ketone and a thio-semicarbazide of the fifth formula above in equimolar amounts or by reaction of a mustard oil of the ninth formula above with a diacetylmonohydrazone-mono-oxime in equimolar amounts, The mono - thiosemicarbazone - mono - hydrazones of the sixth formula above can be prepared by reaction of equimolar amounts of a mustard oil of the ninth formula above and diacetyldihydrazone. Pharmaceutical preparations, comprising as active ingredient a novel bis-thiosemicarbazone of the first formula above in admixture or conjunction with a suitable solid or liquid diluent, are active against poultry coccidiosis and may be administered in the drinking- water or foodstuff.
