Abstract: A process for the preparation of 2-hydroxynaphthalene-6-carboxylic acid using potassium carbonate and CO at temperatures above 260@C and a pressure of at least 10 bar is characterised in that 2-hydroxynaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid and/or 2-hydroxynaphthalene-3,6-dicarboxylic acid or their potassium salts and optionally potassium beta -naptholate are used as starting materials. The process according to the invention enables, by reuse of the by-products, the product selectivity to be increased considerably with respect to 2-hydroxynaphthalene-6-carboxylic acid.

Abstract: A method for the depletion of inorganic byproducts from product mixtures produced during the synthesis of metallocenes comprises treating the mixture, which contains one or more metallocenes and at least one inorganic byproduct, with a polar extraction agent. Also claimed is the use of polar extraction agents for removing inorganic byproducts from metallocene synthesis product mixtures. Preferably the mixture is a crude metallocene synthesis reaction product. The extraction agent contains 5 - 100 vol.% one or more polar solvents. The amount of inorganic byproducts is reduced to less than 5 wt.%. The byproducts are inorganic salts and / or covalent metal halides.
