Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound comprising specific hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated metallocene and useful for production, etc., of polyolefin as a polymerization catalyst, etc., for olefins by combination with a cocatalyst such as aluminoxane. SOLUTION: This new metallocene is represented by the formula [M is a metallic element of the group IVb, Vb or VIb of the periodic table, especially Ti, Zr or Hf; X is H, a 1-10C alkyl, a 1-10C alkoxy, a 6-10C aryl, a 6-10C aryloxy, etc.; R to R are each H, a 1-20C alkyl, a 6-20C aryl, a 1-10C carbon- containing group, etc., containing one or more hetero atoms among O, N, Si, Ge, P, etc. ; E' is C, Si, Ge or Sn, preferably C; (q) is 0 or 1, preferably 1] and useful as a polymerization catalyst, etc., for olefins. The compound is obtained by suspending rac-isopropylidenebis(indenyl)zirconium dichloride, etc., with palladium in toluene and hydrogenating the suspended compound at 50 deg.C for 6hr under hydrogen pressure.

SOLUTION: This new metallocene is represented by formula I M is a metal of the group IVb, Vb or VIb of the periodic table; R and R are each H, a 1-10C alkyl, a 1-10C alkoxy, a 6-10C aryl, a 6-10C aryloxy, OH, a halogen, etc.; R and R are each H, a halogen, a 1-10C alkyl, a 2-10C alkenyl, a 6-10C aryl, NR (R is a halogen, a 1-10C alkyl or a 6-10C aryl), SR , OSiR , etc.; R is formula II (M is Si, Ge or Sn; R and R are each H, a halogen, a 1-10C alkyl, a 1-10C alkoxy, a 6-20C aryl, etc.) or bridge of formula TV, etc.; R and R are each a group of formula IV [R to R are each same kind as R ; 2 =1; (1), (m), (n), (o) and (p) are each 0-4]. The compound has extremely high polymerization activity and is useful as a catalyst, etc., for producing a polyolefin having decreased stereospecificity.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for hydrogenating a metallocene by which a hydrogenated metallocene used for production, etc., of stereoregular polyolefin is obtained in a high yield by treating the metallocene having a double bond, an aromatic substituting group, etc., with hydrogen in a non halogenated solvent and in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst. SOLUTION: A metallocene having at least one double bond and/or at least one aromatic substituting group, and at least one kind of transition metal compound of group IVb in the periodic table of elements is treated hydrogen in at least one kind of non halogenated solvents comprising a non halogenated aromatic solvent such as benzene, toluene and xylene and/or a non halogenated non protonic solvent containing oxygen such as anisole, ethyl phenyl ether and tetrahydrofuran, in the presence of at least one kind of hydrogenation catalyst such as palladium-activated carbon, palladium black, platinum oxide and platinum black at 0-150 deg.C to provide a hydrogenated metallocene used for production of a polyolefin such as isotactic polypropylene, a copolymer and an elastomer.

Abstract: A method for the depletion of inorganic byproducts from product mixtures produced during the synthesis of metallocenes comprises treating the mixture, which contains one or more metallocenes and at least one inorganic byproduct, with a polar extraction agent. Also claimed is the use of polar extraction agents for removing inorganic byproducts from metallocene synthesis product mixtures. Preferably the mixture is a crude metallocene synthesis reaction product. The extraction agent contains 5 - 100 vol.% one or more polar solvents. The amount of inorganic byproducts is reduced to less than 5 wt.%. The byproducts are inorganic salts and / or covalent metal halides.
