    Abstract: To produce shaped articles of cordierite, a batch which gives the cordierite composition and contains clay and/or kaolin as well as soapstone and/or talc, and also water and an organic auxiliary, is subjected to shear-mixing. For this purpose, the batch is introduced between two bodies at a small distance, which move relative to one another, and simultaneously exposes the batch to a shear stress. Preferably, the batch is filled into the gap formed by two horizontally arranged cylindrical shear rollers which almost touch one another and which rotate at different speed or in opposite directions. The batch is then formed to give a shaped article, and the shaped article is fired until the cordierite phase is produced. … Cordierite grains with very small coefficients of thermal expansion (for example at most 1.1 x 10 / DEG C in all three directions of space) can be obtained.

    Abstract: The flame tube (21) of the burner (22) extends through the boiler door (23). The combustion chamber (24) of the boiler (25) is limited by a heat exchanger (26) with its outer walls (27) and by the rear wall of the boiler (28). The heat exchanger houses the heat exchange pipes (29) through which water to be heated flows. The water inlet (30) and outlet (31) are connected at the side. The insert (1) is centrally arranged in the combustion chamber so that the centreline of the flame coincides with its centreline, and is positioned on a locator comprising three bearing pins. The flame (34) starts shortly behind the flame tube and burns in the flow direction. Between the flame tube and the insert is a space (35) acting as a suction area (36). A part of the gas is recirculated via the suction area through the inlet aperture and through the injection openings (6) in the insert.
