Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a method for synthesizing hydrazinium nitroformate, capa ble of securing the safety, simply synthesizing the objective compound and raising the yield, by maintaining optimum reaction conditions and establishing safe handling of an intermediate. CONSTITUTION:In synthesizing hydrazinium nitroformate (HNF) by using acetic anhydride and nitric acid, (1) acetic anhydride 18 reacted with fuming nitric acid (1.52 specific gravity) at 25 to 30 deg.C while successively continuing stirring to synthesize tetranitromethane. (2) The tetranitromethane is reacted with potassium.hydroxide in an aqueous solution of glycerol to provide a potassium salt of trinitromethane (nitroform as another name) and then (3) the potassium salt is reacted with sulfuric acid prepared by diluting concentrated sulfuric acid with water (about 1:1). Nitroform dissolved in water together with nitroform made into an oily state and floating on the upper layer is extracted with an ether while cooling with water and the ether recovered to provide the nitroform. (4) The prepared nitroform is dissolved in methanol and reacted with hydrazine hydrate to provide HNF.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve gas generating efficiency by arranging a drive pin to be driven into a container accommodating hydrazine and the like in liquid state within a guide hole for guiding the gas. CONSTITUTION:Liquid state hydrazine and the like 1 contained in a container 2 is to be decomposed into gas by means of decomposition accelerant 3. An opening 5 of a gas generating cylinder 4 is inserted into guide hole 6. A drive pin 8 provided in the guide hole 6 serves to pierce a container 2 in the gas generating cylinder 4. By adjusting the position of the drive pin 8 arranged in the guide hole 6 and making the forward stroke of the tip of the drive pin 8 shorter, piercing the container 2 is made securer. This makes it possible to make the cylinder smaller and gas generating efficiency better compared with the cases of compressed carbon dioxide gas or solidified gas generating materials.

The non-dissolving liq. that does not dissolve the hydroxylammonium nitrate is added to the concd. aq. soln., the liq. compatible with water and the non-dissolving liq. is further added and they are cooled optionally under vigorous stirring, or the solvent acting as a bad solvent to the hydroxylammonium nitrate and compatible with water is added to the concd. aq. soln. and they are cooled optionally under vigorous stirring. The hydroxylammonium nitrate is separated by cooling and the objective crystalline hydroxylammonium nitrate is obtd.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a solid propellant for generating the same degree of impelling force as that using ammonium perchlorate, not containing a component like ammonium perchlorate to cause pollution such as acidic rain, by mixing hydroxylammonium nitrate as an oxidizing agent component with a binder as a fuel component to constitute the propellant. SOLUTION: This propellant is constituted by mixing preferably 70-90 pts.wt. of hydroxylammonium with preferably 10-30 pts.wt. of a binder. Various kinds of hydrocarbon-based polymers or rubber-like materials can be used as the binder. For example, a polysulfide, a PVC, a polyurethane, a polyester, a terminal carboxyl group-containing polybutadiene, a glycidylazidated polymer may be cited as the binder. The propellant is further mixed with a metal such as Al. Mg, Be, B, Zr, etc. as a fuel component.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a method in which easily available and inexpensive urea is used as a starting raw material and which comprises stages that are not complex but simpler and safely operable and also, by which ammonium dinitramide(ADN) can be synthesized in a good yield. CONSTITUTION: This method comprises: a stage for synthesizing urea nitrate by allowing urea to react with dilute nitric acid; a stage for synthesizing nitrourea by allowing the urea nitrate to react with sulfuric acid; a stage for allowing the nitrourea to react with a nitrating agent such as nitronium tetrafluoroborate and introducing gaseous ammonia into the resultant reaction mixture; and a stage for filtering off formed byproduct crystals, concentrating the resultant filtrate, adding ethyl acetate to the concentrated filtrate, filtering off a formed precipitate, reconcentrating the filtrate thus obtained under reduced pressure, and finally, adding chloroform to the reconcentrated filtrate to separate out the objective ADN as its crystals.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To cut a string suspended underwater on a cutter edge by a method wherein a gas producer is ignited by carrying electric current to produce a large quantity of gas quickly, and the cutter is blown up thereby. CONSTITUTION:A cartridge 2 charged with an igniter 4 with conducting wire 3 and a gas producer layer 6 hermetically in that order is installed on the bottom of a metallic cylinder 1, and a cutter 7 is installed in the cylinder 1 so that it is slidable airtightly. A string to cut is put into the cylinder 1 through a hole 11. When the igniter 4 is fired by carrying electric current, the gas producer layer 6 is ignited to produce a large quantity of gas rapidly. The gas thus spouting blows up the cutter 7, and the string 12 is cut on the cutter edge.
