Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide extension of the BONDING mode 1 by providing a way for a simple and reliable synchronization procedure so as to reduce a time and to relieve a network load required for re-synchronization. SOLUTION: The method is provided, where the BONDING mode 1 is used to re-synchronize a group of B-channels of an ISDN so as to attain re- synchronization without the need for interrupting the group of the B channels. Thus, the reliability of the combined channels is enhanced while using a simpler device in comparison with that required for solutions by the BONDING modes 2, 3 and the time and the network load required for re-synchronization can drastically be reduced.

Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for re-synchronizing a group of B channels in an ISDN network using the BONDING Mode 1 specification. Re-synchronization is achieved without the need to first disconnect the affected group of B channels from the network. Thus, the reliability of the bonded channels is improved while maintaining a simpler architecture than those associated with BONDING Modes 2 and 3. The solution offers improved channel reliability, improved network performance and reduced network load when channel re-synchronization becomes necessary.
