    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate irregular parts which are made high of a magnetic data storage disk by bringing an MR(magneto-resistance) head into contact with the irregular parts which are relatively soft in order to errode the irregular parts by friction. SOLUTION: The irregular part 245 which is made high of the magnetic storage disk is removed by eroding the irregulart part by friction while bringing the MR head into contact with the irregular part which is relatively soft. Here, the head can be brought into contact with the irregular part by being prolonged in the direction of the disk while selectively increasing the read bias current of the MR head. An advantage removing such an incomplete irregular part is that a thermal asperity to be generated when the head is unexpectedly brought into contact with the irregular part which is made high at the time of reading data is easily eliminated.
