    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording disk for a disk drive storage device with enhanced servo technology.
    SOLUTION: A recording disk has at least two types of servo sector formats including a first type having a track identification field 405 with a track number and a second type having an abbreviated track field 406 to identify the track in the track area smaller than the entire track area on a disk face. Preferably the track field of the first type employing gray code encoding includes gray code bits sufficiently to identify the full track number, the N-th (N is ≥2) servo sector is the track field of the first type and all the servo sectors between them are track fields of the second type. As a result, the disk area required for the track ID can be reduced.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system that optimizes a call in the vicinity of a wireless dead zone in mobile communication. SOLUTION: When a mobile unit (301) approaches a communication dead zone (304), the call of the mobile unit (301) is automatically interrupted in a proper mode (305). When the mobile unit (301) goes out of the communication dead zone (304), the speech can be reconnected automatically (306). In order to inform the mobile unit (301) that the mobile unit (301) approaches the dead zone (304), at least one of an audible message, a visual message and a contact stimulus as part of the proper automatic interruption is given to the mobile unit (301) and an opposite party of the call. Furthermore, this message can instruct at least either of a time, when the mobile unit (301) goes out of the dead zone (304) and an action which should be taken at that time. Similarly when the mobile unit (301) is going to go out of the dead zone (304), the instruction denoting it is given to the mobile unit (301) and its opposite party of the call prior to the reconnection.

SOLUTION: The disk drive storage device comprises embedded track identifying fields 410, 411 which identify a track within a range of tracks. The range being less than the full range of tracks on the disk surface.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate irregular parts which are made high of a magnetic data storage disk by bringing an MR(magneto-resistance) head into contact with the irregular parts which are relatively soft in order to errode the irregular parts by friction. SOLUTION: The irregular part 245 which is made high of the magnetic storage disk is removed by eroding the irregulart part by friction while bringing the MR head into contact with the irregular part which is relatively soft. Here, the head can be brought into contact with the irregular part by being prolonged in the direction of the disk while selectively increasing the read bias current of the MR head. An advantage removing such an incomplete irregular part is that a thermal asperity to be generated when the head is unexpectedly brought into contact with the irregular part which is made high at the time of reading data is easily eliminated.

SOLUTION: The problem of generation of torque higher than needed for the normal rotational operation of a spindle motor assembly in a direct access storage device caused by the higher viscosity of grease in a cold weather is solved by localizing heating to the spindle motor assembly to lower the viscosity of the grease, then causing a disk drive to heat itself during or after the spinning-up (rotation starting) of the spindle motor assembly.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for effectuating the reception and local storage of source information signals representative of a media program transmitted from a source information network preferably over a cable television channel on a pay-per-view basis is disclosed. A local intelligent set-top control unit communicates with a remote information network and a local storage device to coordinate the transmission of customer ordered media programs from the information network for storage on the local storage device. The local storage device is preferably a standard video cassette recorder (VCR) providing full VCR control functionality when presenting a stored media program on a television. A digital or optical data storage disk drive system may alternatively be employed to store source information signals downloaded from the remote information network. The intelligent set-top control unit communicates a pay-per-view billing signal to the information network upon playing of a downloaded media program, and provides protection against unauthorized copying. In an alternative configuration, a set-top control card is installed into a host computer system to coordinate the reception and local storage of downloaded media programs, and preferably provides a platform for interfacing with other home communication and electronic systems.
