Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for providing a consumer aggregation service in a network service provider. SOLUTION: At first, when a user registers himself or herself in a consumer collecting service 110, the consumer collecting service 110 replaces the identification information of the registered user 134 with its own identification information when the registered user 134 reads a world wide web(WWW) site. Moreover, the consumer collecting server 110 intercepts an electronic merchandise order made by the registered user 134 with a retailer 124 though a network 100, and charges the registered user 134 with the order, and carries out the order with the retailer 124 on behalf of the registered user 134, and makes the retail agent 124 charge the consumer aggregation service itself with the order. Moreover, the consumer collecting server 110 collects coupons or bonuses from the retailers 124 based on shopping performed by the registered users 134, and stores them in a data base, and distributes the collected coupons or bonuses to the registered users 134 in a prescribed method.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for information conversion that facilitates exchange of many digital information data between wireless communication units in order to aid communication between users understanding different languages. SOLUTION: This invention provides a system and a method for information conversion employing wireless communication units. The communication unit allows a user to enter data in its mother language. The communication unit converts an entry request into a markup language. The communication unit transmits a markup language expressing a property of a request and a mother language of the user of the communication unit to a 2nd communication unit via a wireless link. The 2nd communication unit receives the request and returns a reply in a mother language instructed by the user of the 1st communication unit or in the markup language. The personal communication unit receives the reply and displays the reply in the mother language of the original user.

Abstract: Various methods are disclosed for disguising information such as an e-mail address so that it may be published on a web page and be legible or understandable to a human whilst being unintelligible to a web robot or spider address collection program. The methods disclosed include, converting text into a graphic, sound or video file, replacing characters of the text with similar or equivalent characters and adding obviously superfluous letters and words to the address, (known as munging or mungeing). The method may also comprise encoding the address or a media file containing the address into a Java (RTM) applet. Also claimed are various methods to make text in the form of a graphic file less readable by OCR style character recognition, these methods include the use of alphanumeric backgrounds, low contrast colour-schemes and textured backgrounds.

Abstract: Methods for processing information to be substantially unintelligible by a machine but understandable by a person include disguising information in the form of tex t and creating a graphical image file of the text. The text may be disguised before, during o r after the creation of the graphical image file. The text may be disguised by manipulating the characte rs of the text, such as by replacing characters of the text by other characters having a similar appearance or by words corresponding to the characters, or by adding obviously superfluous characte rs or words to the text, for example. The text may also be disguised by processing the graphical imag e file to provide a background to the text which has low contrast with respect to the text. An alpha-numeric or textured background may be provided, for example. The graphical image file may be par t of a Java Applet. Text may also be disguised through direct encoding in a Java Applet. It woul d be difficult or impossible for a machine to accurately capture the disguised information wit h a harvesting program, even if the program used optical character recognition. Information may also be disguised in the form of a dynamic media, such as audio or video. Creation of the audio or video file may be sufficient disguise; the information may be further disguised, as well. The audio or video file may also be part of a Java Applet. Once again, it would be difficult or impossib le for a machine to accurately capture such information. The invention is particularly suited fo r disguising personal information on a communications network, such as an e-mail address on a web page stored on the World Wide Web. Computer readable media storing the media file, software executable to disguise the information, web sites including the disguised information and servers storing the disguised information, are also disclosed.

Abstract: A data processing system includes an embedded controller (100) having a core (102), a system bus, nonvolatile memory (104), and random access memory (RAM) (106). The RAM (104) has a non-overlay region (108) and an overlay region (110). The overlay region (110) may be divided into a plurality of partitions. Partitions of the overlay region (110) may be used as general purpose memory when they are not being used as overlay regions.

Abstract: The present invention provides an improved system and method for managing t he delivery and revenue associated with the access and delivery of educational content in a plural user operating environment such as a computer network. The invention provide s a method and system which allows multiple users to access and pay for educational content in a variety of ways including in bulk, on a pay per view basis, or on a pay as you view basis. Likewise, the invention provides a method and system for reimbursing the author, owner, and supplier of the content accessed by the users as a variable function of student access to the conten t provided.

Abstract: A user interface includes a process model unit (34) for predicting one or more allowable next states, from a current state of a process, and a display processing unit (26) for deriving, for each of the allowable next states, a representation of the allowable next state. The display processing unit has an output coupled to a display screen (30) for displaying each of the representations (30b-30g) in conjunction with a representation (30a) of a current state of the process. The user interface further includes an actuator control unit (22) that is coupled to an input mechanism whereby a user selects one of the displayed representations of one of the allowable next states. The motor control unit controls the process to cause it to enter a new current state that corresponds to the selected derived representation. In one embodiment, the display screen has a touchscreen capability whereby the user selects one of the representations by physically touching the display screen within an area associated with a selected one of the derived allowable states.
