Abstract: An apparatus for driving a magnetic head relative to a rotatable recording medium upon rotation thereof. The apparatus has a turntable for accepting the recording medium; a spindle for aligning the recording medium; a tripod for supporting the turntable; a tubular member for aligning the turntable, spindle, and tripod; and a flange connected to the spindle for causing the spindle to be lowered upon the lowering of the turntable. With a recording medium positioned on the turntable and rotated, a leadscrew connected, through a gear arrangement, to the turntable and the magnetic head will cause the magnetic head to be driven relative to the recording medium. When a new recording medium is to be placed on the turntable, the turntable is lowered; causing the tripod to engage the flange and thereby lower the spindle for facilitating removal of the original recording medium.

Abstract: Apparatus in a disc dictation system for concurrently ejecting a disc from the record/playback station into the unload station and loading a new disc from the load station into the record/playback station. The apparatus includes a carrier member which is movable from a preset home position below the load station, through the record/playback station, to the unload station. Attached to the carrier member are an ejector which disengages the used disc from the record/playback station and a picker which selects a new disc from the load station. The ejector and the picker are carried by the carrier member through its motion and respectively transfer the used disc to the unload station and transfer a new disc into the record/playback station.

Abstract: The present invention concerns dictation and transcription apparatus having convenient and efficient structures for loading, feeding, and ejecting disc record members. In exemplary embodiments, the disc record members are stored in a disc cartridge enabling convenient transportation and storage when not in use. Both dictation and transcription apparatus are provided with a load station, a record/playback station, and an eject (unload) station. Provision is made in the apparatus for accommodating any of a plurality of standard disc cartridges at the load station enabling convenient manual loading by an operator of the apparatus. Following the loading of discs into the apparatus, the cartridge is thereupon moved to the eject (unload) station and serves to receive the discs, one by one, as they are processed in the apparatus.
