    Abstract: An apparatus for receiving and storing a number of record members and adapted to have record members unloaded therefrom. The apparatus is comprised of a housing having cooperating top and bottom enclosures which form a front opening for loading and unloading a number of record members, and a side opening for loading one record member. Arcuate recesses form part of the front opening for facilitating manual loading of record members. Elongated slots open in each arcuate recess for facilitating mechanical unloading. Further, the housing has an orientation and guide rib for insuring proper orientation and guiding for such purposes as mechanical loading and unloading. In addition, the housing has a worm groove opening adjacent the front opening which cooperates with associated structure for insuring proper positioning for mechanical unloading.

    Abstract: An apparatus for driving a magnetic head relative to a rotatable recording medium upon rotation thereof. The apparatus has a turntable for accepting the recording medium; a spindle for aligning the recording medium; a tripod for supporting the turntable; a tubular member for aligning the turntable, spindle, and tripod; and a flange connected to the spindle for causing the spindle to be lowered upon the lowering of the turntable. With a recording medium positioned on the turntable and rotated, a leadscrew connected, through a gear arrangement, to the turntable and the magnetic head will cause the magnetic head to be driven relative to the recording medium. When a new recording medium is to be placed on the turntable, the turntable is lowered; causing the tripod to engage the flange and thereby lower the spindle for facilitating removal of the original recording medium.

    Abstract: A printer carrier for carrying both a selection motor and a carrier for print element and ribbon cartridges. The printer carrier is made up of a frame, adjustable rails, and a leadscrew follower, and is structured to be mounted on escapement rails. The adjustable rails are for accepting the selection motor and the carrier for print element and ribbon cartridges. Upon adjustment of the rails, the motor and cartridge carrier are oriented relative to a printer platen. The follower is for connecting the apparatus to a leadscrew for controlling escapement along the escapement rails.

    Abstract: An under-the-cover automatic font changing apparatus, for a daisy wheel printer utilizing a print element (2) housed in a cartridge (1) during printing, is adapted to exchange print elements in the cartridge. It includes an elongated and vertically oriented rack (91), a plurality of print element holding means (60) located along the rack, drive means, (73) and (98), for vertically elevating and lowering the rack in a single plane, and means for causing a selection motor drive hub included in the printer to be translated toward and away from the print element for a print element change. During printing, the drive hub is for rotating the print element housed in the cartridge. Cooperating with the apparatus is a carrier (90) positionable along and above the rack and carrying the cartridge. The cartridge has spring means included therein for cooperating with the drive hub, upon insertion of one of the holding means into the cartridge, for installing a print element included in the cartridge on the holding means for removal of the print element from the cartridge, and removing a print element from the holding means for loading the cartridge with a print element.

    Abstract: A sheet feed device, which is suitable for attachement to a printer or the like comprises a cartridge (10) for holding a stack of sheets (5), and a separator feed mechanism (50). Mechanism (50) comprises shingler wheel (52) mounted on pivotable arm (56), and conical feed rollers (70, 72). In operation, wheel (52) first cooperate with the uppermost sheet of stack (5), causing its leading edge to travel ramped sidewall (16) to edge aligner (20). Sensing means detect the presence of the sheet against aligner (20) and control rotation of arm (56) and disengagement of wheel (52) from the uppermost sheet which is then free to be driven in the feed direction by feed rollers (70, 72).

    Abstract: A queing means transfers surface mount components (17) randomly stored in a detachable hopper (12) into a plurality of parallel lines (16) formed by grooves in a track plate (20). Vibrator means (24) translate the components along the grooves in the downwardly extending track plate toward a shuttle assembly (32). With respect to pairs of such track grooves, the shuttle assembly alternately transports a chip from each groove comprising the pair into a plunger assembly (46). A tube magazine (14) carrying a plurality of carrier tubes (13) to be loaded with components is releasably disposed adjacent the plunger assembly whereby periodic downward movement of plungers simultaneously forces a component from each line of components in the plunger assembly formed by the shuttle mechanism into a respective one of the tubes, and the process is repeated until the tubes are filled with components as desired. Pneumatic means are provided for urging the components backwards from the plunger assembly along the grooves toward and into the hopper. The apparatus is thereby purged in preparation for substitution of a next hopper containing different components and a set of tubes carried by a next tube magazine replacing the one carrying the thus-filled tubes.
