Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a calender system that accepts input from both computer keyboards and telephones. SOLUTION: An integrated calender and voicemail system accept input of a calendar program or voicemail program from a workstation or telephone set, periodically updates a voicemail database with new data that the calendar system outputs, and also periodically updates a calendar database with new data that a voicemail system outputs to enable the calendar database and voicemail database to hold common data. Abstract:
The present invention concerns methods and apparatus for implementing context-dependent security for files and other computer system resources. In particular, methods and apparatus of the present invention implement context-based permissions that are used in context-dependent file security. In examples of the present invention, the context-based permissions may allow access to a file only when an attempt to access the file is made at a certain time of day, or from an authorized computer system, or from a computer having a certain application program installed. In general terms, the context-based permissions may specify time, location and application information that either alone or in combination may be used to restrict access to a file.
Abstract:
In a first aspect of the present invention, methods and apparatus implement graphical user interfaces for interactively specifying service level agreements used to regulate delivery of services to, for example, computer systems An interactive graphical user interface allows a user to see the effects of varying values of service delivery variables on the level of service achievable in a particular service delivery context In a second aspect, methods and apparatus of the present invention provision resources required for service delivery In the second aspect, the methods and apparatus of the present invention select a service delivery model dependent on context The selected service delivery model is used to provision resources that will be required during service delivery In a third aspect, methods and apparatus of the present invention monitor compliance with a service level agreement dupng a service delivery event.
Abstract:
A method for use in a handwriting recognition system, and apparatus for accomplishing the method, that generates a User set of prototype symbols. The method includes the steps of (a) inputting one or more strokes for representing a predetermined symbol; and (b) comparing characteristics of the inputted strokes to stroke characteristics associated with one or more predetermined Starter prototype symbols. If the stroke characteristics match to within a predetermined threshold, the method further includes a step of (c) averaging the characteristics of the inputted stroke or stroke with the characteristics of a corresponding one or ones of the strokes of the matching one of the Starter prototype symbols to form a User prototype symbol. Further steps include (d) storing the User prototype symbol for subsequent use; and (e) deleting one or more Starter prototype symbols of the same label as the input symbol. If the stroke characteristics do not match, the method further includes the steps of (f) storing the characteristics of the one or more inputted strokes as the User prototype symbol for subsequent use; and (g) deleting the one or more Starter prototype symbols. A counter is maintained and deletes the Starter set only after a predetermined number of instances of the symbol have been entered by the user.

The selected service delivery model is used to provision resources that will be required during service delivery. In a third aspect, methods and apparatus of the present invention monitor compliance with a service level agreement during a service delivery event. In instances where a given service delivery does not comply with service level attributes specified in a controlling service level agreement, the methods and apparatus of the present invention take corrective action.
