    Abstract: Apparatus is provided for separating a copy sheet bearing an unfused toner image from a moving electrophotographic surface to which the copy sheet is electrostatically attracted during the image transfer operation. The separating apparatus utilizes a nozzle assembly having a plurality of nozzles mounted near the electrophotographic surface. A high velocity flow of pressurized fluid from the nozzles for a predetermined time is sufficient to detact the leading edge of the sheet and a lower velocity flow of pressurized fluid from the nozzles is sufficient to hold the copy sheet closely adjacent to the nozzle assembly and permit movement of the copy sheet across the nozzle assembly to a sheet transport toward a fusing station.

    Abstract: A pump includes a pair of electrically conductive bellows (10,12) rigidly secured to end plates (26,28) of the pump housing (30) at the perimeter of their accordion-like ring structures. The bellows are interconnected by a shaft (40) at their centres so that they can flex in phase. An electrical coil means (18,20) is attached to the interconnected bellows and is axially movable with the bellows. The coil means is surrounded by a permanent magnet structure (22,24) secured to the pump housing. Each bellows forms a fluid chamber with its associated end plate, the end plate having a valve structure (76,78) for the inlet and outlet of fluid. The coil means is electrically connected to an alternating current power supply, the connection being made through the electrically conductive bellows. The bellows flex in phase in the presence of the alternating current to the coils and thus alternately pull fluid in and force fluid out of the respective fluid chambers.

    Abstract: The pump assembly has a cylinder with a fluid bearing inner surface. A second cylinder is positioned coaxially within the first and attached to a base. The second cylinder has fluid bearing inner and outer surfaces. The outer surface has at least one dynamic pressure generating groove. A shaft is positioned coaxially within the second cylinder. It has a fluid bearing outer surface with at least one dynamic pressure generating groove. A clamp attaches the shaft to the first cylinder. The shaft is rotated to form a hydrodynamic fluid bearing between the two cylinders and a second hydrodynamic fluid bearing between the second cylinder and the shaft. An inlet takes in lubricating fluid. A passage in the body of the second cylinder extends from the fluid bearing outer surface of the second cylinder to the base wherein dynamic pressure in the first hydrodynamic fluid bearing pumps the lubricating fluid through the passage.
