    Abstract: For a slider having convex curvature along its length, or "crown", a method is described for reducing fly height variation due to crown by shifting the peak of the crown toward the leading end, and the resultant slider structure. In a preferred method, peak shifting is accomplished in a slider with symmetrical crown by affixing a suspension to the bonding surface of the slider near the leading end. The bonding process creates a displacement force upon the slider to effect the shift. An alternative approach reshapes a row of sliders prior to rail shaping, e.g., by sand or bead blasting.

    Abstract: The pump assembly has a cylinder with a fluid bearing inner surface. A second cylinder is positioned coaxially within the first and attached to a base. The second cylinder has fluid bearing inner and outer surfaces. The outer surface has at least one dynamic pressure generating groove. A shaft is positioned coaxially within the second cylinder. It has a fluid bearing outer surface with at least one dynamic pressure generating groove. A clamp attaches the shaft to the first cylinder. The shaft is rotated to form a hydrodynamic fluid bearing between the two cylinders and a second hydrodynamic fluid bearing between the second cylinder and the shaft. An inlet takes in lubricating fluid. A passage in the body of the second cylinder extends from the fluid bearing outer surface of the second cylinder to the base wherein dynamic pressure in the first hydrodynamic fluid bearing pumps the lubricating fluid through the passage.
