Abstract: A machine for printing a strip of connected labels including a stack of co-axially disposed print wheels, a series of print wheel setting knobs disposed on an exterior surface of the machine and drivingly connected respectively with the print wheels by means of toothed intermediate wheels and racks and pinions for rotatably adjusting the individual wheels, a solenoid for moving the print wheels out of engagement with the intermediate wheels, and a feed wheel having a print backup boss disposed to have a nip with printing surfaces of the print wheels so that the label stock is printed as the backup boss makes a nip with printing surfaces on the print wheels as the print wheels are collectively rotated with corresponding rotation of the feed wheel.

Abstract: A machine for printing identical characters on a series of connected labels including a stack of type wheels each having a series of different bossed print characters on its periphery. A rotatable disk carries an ink transfer roll and a pressure roll. The ink transfer roll rolls across aligned print faces of the type wheels, and the pressure roll then forces a label of the connected series of labels into printing contact with the print faces as the disk rotates. The connected labels are fed one at a time into registry with the aligned print faces of the type wheels for printing the labels one after the other. A manually operated linkage is connected with each of the type wheels for adjusting each type wheel with respect to the other type wheels so as to change the character printed by each of the wheels at will, and the wheels are held against relative rotation during a single run of the connected labels.

Abstract: A system for determining and entering line measure into a justification computer for controlling the format of output copy. During an output operation when there is a necessity for determining line measure, a measure seek code is detected, escapement of the carrier initiated, the escapement of the carrier sensed, and the units of escapement counted. Upon sensing the location of the right margin stop, escapement is terminated. Thereafter the carrier is returned to the position occupied prior to the measure seek code being read. The number of units counted is the line measure which is then used for control of output.
