SOLUTION: An action provided through a GUI(graphical user interface) can be selected with >=1 view of the action and this system includes a means which provides a container object that can be displayed on a display device 55 through the GUI, the container object constituted so as to generate a user page to be displayed to a user in response to a user's choice, a discriminating means which discriminates when the user selects the container object, informs the container object of the user choice, and indicates the generation of the user page in response, and a view relating means which enables the user to relate the view of the action to the user page generated when the container object is selected.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce work for supporting a view by providing a means for providing an operation object which defines an attribute to give the view and an identifier which identifies an operation called in selection and the means for identifying the user selection of the view. SOLUTION: When an identifying means 3 identifies the selection of the view by the user, it is recognized by a related object 20 inside a memory 15 and a specified operation concerning the object is called under the control of a processor. A generating means 5 is provided in order to generate the object inside the memory 15. Thus, the object used by an application can be defined by an application developer. Besides, a constituting means 6 generates a batch view from a menu defining object 20 which is stored inside the memory 15 under the control of the processor 2. A menu defining object is generated by the generating means 5 like the operation object.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an information retrieval method and a system by automatically inputting personal user information accessed from a personal user information list to an interactive collation field. SOLUTION: A process is started, a personal information property(PIP) index is compiled and each PIP is associated with an interactive collation field of a specific form (S242, 244 and 246). When access to a remote network site is successful, a web page is displayed in a local network site (S250). A processor corresponding to the local network site instructs the form analysis of web page display(S252). An interactive field that corresponds to a PIP included in the PIP index is searched for (S254). When all of the specific interactive collation fields are identified (S256), appropriate PIPs are automatically inputted to appropriate interactive collation fields (S258) and the processing is finished (S260).

    Abstract: A user interface builder provides support for creation of customised user interfaces, enabling users to associate images, animation, sound clips and other media with specific predefined states of a user interface control. A set of object classes for each control predefined within the user interface builder include a first class defining the functional behaviour and a comprehensive state model for the control, and a second class which encapsulates property attributes which may be set by a user to be associated with specific states of the control. In particular, desired graphics images, audio and animation sequences can be associated with a control via simple GUI interaction, avoiding the need for an interface creator to write code for standard interface control functions and so enabling easy creation of interfaces with semantic consistency and customised appearance.

    Abstract: A user can select actions in a user interface. An action can be selected by one or more "views" - for example, a "Print" action may be selected by selecting Print on a File menu, clicking on an icon of a printer, or pressing control-P. An action object defines, for each possible view representing the action, the attributes required to provide that view, and also an identifier to identify the operation to be invoked when the action is selected. The system identifies when a user selects a view and informs the action object of this. The action object then generates a command to invoke the desired operation. This mechanism achieves single event generation from multiple views, and therefore the application does not need to concern itself with how the user generated the call. The action views query the attributes of the action object directly, all the necessary data is held in one place, and with automatic view concurrency, the application developer no longer has to worry about keeping action views synchronised with each other.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a computer system connectable to a display device to display a graphical user interface through which a user can select an action in order to invoke a desired operation, and to a method of operation of such a system. The action is selectable by one or more views of that action provided via the graphical user interface, and the system is characterised by means for providing a container object which is displayable via the graphical user interface on the display device, the container object being arranged to respond to user selection by creating a user page for display to the user. Further, the system is characterised by identifying means for identifying when a user selection of the container object has occurred, and for informing the container object of that selection, thereby causing a user page to be created, and view association means for enabling a user to associate views of actions with the user page created upon selection of the container object. Preferably, means are provided for enabling the user to associate a user page created from the container object with a collective view of actions. By such a technique, the user is provided with an easy to use mechanism for grouping actions together as desired, for example so that his/her most commonly used actions are provided in one place.
