    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for efficiently controlling a consumer electronic product which is remotely controllable in a wireless mode by an inexpensive attachment to a home computer.
    SOLUTION: The method and apparatus for remotely controlling an electronic device includes one or a plurality of processing units, a memory system, one or a plurality of input/output control devices for controlling input/output devices such as a keyboard, a mouse, a display device and a communication adapter, a bus for connecting the processing units, the memory system and the input/output control devices, one or a plurality of converters for converting electronic signals into wireless communication signals, and one or a plurality of application programs which can be executed by the processing units for remotely controlling one or a plurality of electronic devices by controlling generation and transmission of the wireless communication signals. The typical application is the control of transmission of infrared signals for remotely controlling consumer electronic equipment.
