Abstract: 1,053,153. Selective printing. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. June 16, 1965 [June 29, 1964], No. 25378/65. Heading B6F. [Also in Division G2] An electrostatic recording apparatus comprises a number of recording heads 40, 42, 44, 46, 48 mounted on a belt 60 and spaced widthwise and lengthwise of the belt so that each head passes over a different vertical line of a stationary sheet 10 at a recording station 26, Fig. 1 (not shown) and the heads pass in succession across the sheet. Each head may comprise ten styli in a row as described in Specification 1,053,152, the styli being energized by pulses to produce on the sheet dot electrostatic charges on the sheet representing characters. The styli in the heads 40, 44, 48 are connected by conductors running widthwise of the belt to associated groups of conductors 50, 54, 58 situated adjacent to the right-hand edge of the belt 60 and the styli in the heads 42, 46 are connected to associated groups of conductors 52, 56 situated adjacent to the left-hand edge of the belt 60. Sets of brushes 32, 34 lie in the paths of the groups of conductors 50 ... 58 and are connected in parallel to electronic circuitry 28, Fig. 1, supplying signals corresponding to the matter to be printed. The band 60 has at one edge sprocket holes 64 engaged by sprockets on a driving roller 12a and at the other edge has evenly spaced conductive strips 66 engaged by brushes 36 connected to electronic circuitry to control character spacing. After the sheet 10 has received the charges, it passes to a station 70 where magnetic particles 72 are applied thereto by magnetic brushes 78 on a rotary member 76. Subsequently, the developed image is fixed by heat from an electrical plate 84 at a station 82. Finally, the sheet is delivered at 86. Sheet-supplying mechanism.-The sheets 10 are fed to the recording station 26 from a stack 16 by intermittently-rotated rollers 14, 11.
