Abstract:
A catching arrangement for the content of multicast transmission across a data network utilizes a first cache which receives content from one or more content providers. The first cache forms the root of a multilevel hierarchical tree. In accordance with configuration parameters, the first cache transmits the group directory to a plurality of subsidiary caches. The subsidiary caches may reorganize the group directory, and relay it to a lower level of subsidiary caches. The process is recursive, until a multicast group of end-user client is reached. Requests for content by the end-user clients are received by the lowest level cache, and forwarded as necessary to higher levels in the hierarchy. The content is then returned to the requestors. Various levels of caches retain the group directory and content according to configuration options, which can be adaptive to changing conditions such as demand, loading, and the like.
Abstract:
In a multicasting system (18) content is multicast from a sender (10) to a plurality of receivers over a data network. Each receiver independently determines whether it is missing elements or packets of the content. Receivers having missing content each initiate a random timer (20, 22, 24). The receiver having the shortest random interval unicasts a negative acknowledgment to the sender (10), which immediately multicasts the negative acknowledgment to the other receivers. All other receivers having the same missing packet thereupon suppress their own negative acknowledgments as to that packet. A repair transmission is then multicast by the sender to all receivers. The random intervals have upper and lower bounds according to the round trip transmission time and the size of the largest missing data element.
Abstract:
A group communication service is adapted for multi-point to multi-point communication. Identical message streams are received by a tier of processing servers from a tier of sources. The processing servers deliver the message streams to a tier of destinations. The group communication service enables the processing servers to deal with newly added message streams and deleted message streams while preserving total ordering.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely communicate published information over a multicast communication channel without the need to generate a random key for each published information, regarding the published information of a hierarchical information aggregate. SOLUTION: A multicast host is provided for distributing information published about a plurality of topics to each of which a topic encryption key is related, to subscriber devices of these topics. The multicast host includes: a means for receiving information relating to a topic; means for accessing subscriber data 104 representing one or more users subscribing the topic; a means for retrieving a topic encryption key associated with the topic; means 150 for encrypting the information with the retrieved topic encryption key; and a means 152 for distributing the information to the one or more users. The topic encryption key is encrypted by using a logical key hierarchical structure, in which a logical key corresponds to the users, and distributed to the subscriber devices. Abstract:
A caching arrangement for the content of multicast transmission across a data network utilizes a first cache which receives content from one or more content providers. Using the REMADE protocol, the first cache constructs a group directory. The first cache forms the root of a multilevel hierarchical tree. In accordance with configuration parameters, the first cache transmits the group directory to a plurality of subsidiary caches. The subsidiary caches may reorganize the group directory, and relay it to a lower level of subsidiary caches. The process is recursive, until a multicast group of end-user clients is reached. Requests for content by the end-user clients are received by the lowest level cache, and forwarded as necessary to higher levels in the hierarchy. The content is then returned to the requesters. Various levels of caches retain the group directory and content according to configuration options, which can be adaptive to changing conditions such as demand, loading, and the like. The behavior of the caches may optionally be modified by the policies of the content providers.

Methods, apparatus, and products are disclosed for synchronizing an active feed adapter and a backup feed adapter in a high speed, low latency data communications environment that include brokering, by a stream administration server, establishment of an active message stream to a subscribing client device from an active feed adapter, the active message stream capable of communicating active application messages; brokering, by the server, establishment of a backup message stream to the client device from a backup feed adapter, the backup message stream capable of communicating backup application messages; receiving an active feed adapter state in backup messaging middleware of the backup adapter from active messaging middleware of the active adapter; determining, by the backup feed adapter, whether a backup feed adapter state is synchronized with the active feed adapter state; and administering, by the backup feed adapter, operation of the backup adapter in dependence upon the determining.
Abstract:
A multicast host for communicating information published about any one of a set of topics to one or more authorised subscribers to those topics, the set of topics being partitioned into one or more partition elements, each partition element having a partition element encryption key associated therewith, wherein each of the one or more partition elements is a disjoint proper subset of the set of topics, the host comprising: means for receiving information relating to a topic; means for determining a partition element for the topic; means for retrieving a partition element encryption key associated with the partition element; means for encrypting the information with the retrieved partition element encryption key; and means for communicating the information to the one or more authorised subscribers.

Abstract:
Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for filtering application messages in a high speed, low latency data communications environment that include: receiving an application message in a transport engine of a message receiving device from a message transmitting device, the application message having a message contents label and a collision indicator, the message contents label representing contents of the application message, the collision indicator specifying whether the message contents label represents different contents in at least one other application message; determining, by the transport engine, whether contents of the application message satisfy a transport layer constraint in dependence upon the message contents label; providing, by the transport engine, the application message and the collision indicator to messaging middleware of the message receiving device if the contents of the application message satisfy the transport layer constraint; and administering the application message, by the messaging middleware, in dependence upon the collision indicator.
