Abstract: Retrieval of status information from a remote device performed on a host system is provided, wherein the remote device is connected to the host system via a bus system comprising at least two signal lines terminated with resistors on the host system side and on the remote device side. The retrieval method includes: activating a sensing phase; sensing the at least two terminated signal lines during the sensing phase; and determining operating state of the remote device based on the sensing result; wherein at least a first operating state representing a connected and powered remote device is detectable.

Abstract: Data is written by a master device to a slave device using an I2C bus and then read back to verify that there were no transmission errors. The data may be transferred from a command register 21 on the master into one or more staging registers 23 on the slave, read back from the staging registers and verified by the master. If the data is successfully verified, the master may send a commit command 24 to cause the slave to transfer the data to the corresponding device register 22. After the data is processed, the master may send a copy back command 25 to copy the data back to the staging register. The master may then read the data once more and verify that it is still valid.

Abstract: Method for retrieving status information from remote devices performed on host system connected via bus system comprising two signal lines (clock SCL, data SDA) terminated with resistors on host (RHC1, RHD0) and device (RRC0, RRD1) side. The method comprises the steps: activating sensing phase 100; sensing the two terminated signal lines (Clk SCL, Dat SDA) during sensing phase 100; determining operating state of the remote device based on sensing result; wherein first operating state representing a connected and powered remote device is detectable. The resistors can be pull up or pull down resistors. Signal lines can be terminated identically or inversely, to detect four different operating states, also via switchable resistors. Second state is unplugged device; third state is plugged but not powered device; fourth state is invalid state or connected, powered but not initialised device. The invention can work within low pin count bus environments.

Clock line is terminated with pull-up resistor RHC1 on host and switchable resistor on remote device; data line is terminated with pull-down resistor RHD0 on host and pull-up resistor RRD1 on device. The method comprises the steps: activating sensing phase; sensing the two terminated signal lines (Clk SCL, Dat SDA) during sensing phase; determining operating state of the remote device based on sensing result; wherein four different operating states are detectable. First state represents remote device plugged, powered, and initialised (clock signal line high, data line high); second state is for unplugged device (high, low); third state is for plugged but not powered device (low, low); fourth state is for plugged, powered, but not initialised state (low, high). The bus can be low-pin count bus (I2C).

Abstract: Es wird in verbessertes Verfahren zum Abrufen von Statusinformation von einer fernen Einheit offenbart, das auf einem Hostsystem durchgeführt wird, wobei die ferne Einheit mit dem Hostsystem über ein Bussystem verbunden ist, das mindestens zwei Signalleitungen (SCL, SDA) umfasst, die auf der Hostsystemseite und auf Seiten der fernen Einheit mit Widerständen (RHC1, RHD0, RRD1, RRCS) abgeschlossen sind. Das Verfahren umfasst die folgenden Schritte; Aktivieren einer Abfragephase; Abfragen der mindestens zwei abgeschlossenen Signalleitungen (SCL, SDA) während der Abfragephase; und Bestimmen des Betriebszustands der fernen Einheit auf der Basis des Abfrageergebnisses; wobei mindestens ein erster Betriebszustand erkennbar ist, der einer angeschlossenen und stromgespeisten fernen Einheit entspricht.
