Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the weight and thickness of the device and to permit position detection with high sensitivity and high resolution by integrally providing a substrate or polarizing plate with a position detection conductive film of an analog capacitor coupling system. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal layer 12 is held between two sheets of glass; a substrate 8 and a substrate 18. The position detection conductive film 20 is disposed on either the front or rear surface of the polarizing plate 24 or the substrate 18 by integration therewith. When the position detection accuracy and the electrical influence on the liquid crystal layer 12 are taken into consideration, the position detection conductive film 20 is preferably disposed on the side nearer the polarizing plate 24 than an ITO film 14. More preferably, the position detection conductive film 20 is disposed between the polarizing plate 24 and the substrate 18. The use of the ITO film 14 which is a common electrode existing between the position detection conductive film 20 and a TFT array 10 as a noise shield is made possible and the position detection of the extremely high accuracy which hardly receives the influence of noise may be embodied.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure to be integrated in the substrate of an LCD suitably for measuring the position of contact between the substrate and one part of human body. SOLUTION: Respective plural cells of a liquid crystal display device for providing a touch input function are provided with a first substrate to integrate a common electrode 28, a second substrate 24 to integrate a pixel electrode and liquid crystal materials arranged between the common electrode and pixel electrode. A first conductive layer (signal layer) and a second conductive layer (protecting plane layer) are integrated on the substrate and arranged between the first substrate and common electrode. The position of contact between the first substrate and a touch input device is determined by impressing a first signal to the signal layer. A second signal is impressed to the protecting plane layer so that capacitive coupling between the signal layer and common electrode is lowered. The second signal can be generated by scaling the amplitude of the first signal or shifting the phase.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a structure which is suitable for the measurement of the position of contact between a substrate and a human body and integrated in the substrate of an LCD by providing at least one resistor which is integrated between a signal layer and a circuit, arranged integrally on the substrate, and is formed together with the signal layer. SOLUTION: Resistors Ri are symmetrically in the center of a screen and Ri=Rn+1-i. When the screen is linearly correctly, equal potentials are horizontal lines and at equal intervals from the top to the bottom. Specially, the whole upper edge part has a corner part potential +Vm and the lower edge part has -Vm. The current density is proportional to an electric field, which is proportional to the gradient of the potential distribution. Therefore, when the equal potentials are straight lines having equal intervals, the current density is constant crossing the screen and flows vertically from the top to the bottom. Potential variation along a long-side resistor Re accurately matches potential variation in the screen. This condition is met only when the long-side resistor Re has constant resistance per unit length and the potential at the junction between a corner part resistor Rc and the long-side resistor Re is equal to the corner part voltage Vm.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fingerprint acquisition system which is accurate and highly reliable by accepting a biometric image only when one or more components are in respectively assigned ranges. SOLUTION: A force detecting device 665 senses a force or torque applied to the fingerprint image acquisition system. The force or torque that an image forming device 660 receives is transferred to a force sensor 665 to be measured. The force sensor 665 generates a stream of force data and a computer 610 reads a stream of force or torque of data. A sensor 665 measures the force that an object applies when the contacting of a fingerprint of the object is sensed. The force and torque that the object applies are monitored intermittently by the computer 610 and a biometric image is optionally selected and displayed. When the image is acquired, the force and torque are analyzed by the computer 610 and when the pressure is extremely high or low, or when the shearing torque is high, the image is excluded.
