Abstract: To enable servo information to be written in a high performance HDD having fast rotation speed and high recording density properties, as well as assure the reliability of the HDD for reading/writing data. A center pad (53a) of a slider (3a) is formed as a line-symmetrical shape in the width direction. The shape of the center pad is a typical example of such the line-symmetry; a side of the center pad, which faces a leading edge (10), is formed linearly almost in parallel to the leading edge (10).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slider that can reduce read and write errors caused by particles and ensure the reliability. SOLUTION: This is a slider 3a facing the recording disk medium and supporting the data read-write head and has an air bearing surface formed between the inflow edge 10 and the outflow edge 11. It has a U shaped rail consisting of the side and cross rails 20-22 formed on the air bearing surface with its front edges positioned at the outflow edge 11 and landing pads 30a, 31a formed between the front edges of the side and cross rails 20-22 and the outflow edge 11. Of the landing pads 30a, 31a, the landing pad 31a facing close to the outer periphery of the disk is made to project at the side closer to the rail.
