Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a caller authentication method and system for allowing update of user subscription services by an intelligent peripheral(IP) in an advanced intelligent network(AIN). SOLUTION: In an advanced intelligent network(AIN) telephone system which includes at least one central station exchange system, a telephone caller authentication method is used for allowing update of user services. A high performance peripheral subsystem 105 is connected to the central station exchange system through a calling connection channel, and the high performance peripheral subsystem 105 includes a means for providing at least a subsidiary calling processing capability through the calling connection channel. The high performance peripheral subsystem 105 includes a step for providing a user prompt, a step for authenticating an utterance response of the user, a step for providing a menu of usable AIN services options, and a step for responding to a user selection by calling out the services options selected by the user.
