Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method which transcodes and transmits a data format through the web so as to minimize the transmission time of information in many different data formats. SOLUTION: When judging that it is more efficient that a client processes contents in 1st format before the contents in the 1st format are transcoded to a 2nd format, a transcoding proxy server sends the contents in the 1st format to the client. When software for processing the 1st format is necessary on the client side, the 1st format processing software is sent to the client together with the contents. Then the contents are transcoded to the 2nd format and sent to the client.
