Abstract: 1298308 Selective printing INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 26 May 1971 [31 Aug 1970] 17109/71 Addition to 1273614 Heading B6F A wire printer includes a print wire 22 biased toward paper 20 by a leaf spring 50, and held against the spring bias by a permanent magnet 42 connected in magnetic circuit with polepieces 38, 46 having an air gap 48 therebetween, the polepiece 38 being formed with an opening 38a receiving an armature 40 connected to the print wire 22. The affect of the permanent magnet 42 can be nullified by a winding 51 to permit the spring 50 to drive the wire for impression. The opening 38a as shown comprises a slot but may comprise a bore (70, Fig. 7, not shown). An auxiliary spring 54 is provided to prevent rebound.

Abstract: Apparatus for incremental feeding of a paper web (10) from an arborless supply roll (11) over a transverse dancer bar (14) resiliently supported at each end with the respective supports (15, 16) having different and variable spring rates to effect uneven pulling of the web (10) during feeding and thus jogging of the supply roll (11). This action maintains a tight wrap of the outer layers of web (10) on the roll (11) and aids in maintaining web alignment during feeding.
