Abstract: The control system of an electrophotographic copier includes jam recovery arrangements. The copier employs an automatic document feed system for feeding original documents in turn from a stack to an exposure station. When a copy sheet jam occurs, the original document at the exposure station is registered in a register stack (232) of a data store (230). The number of copies lost by jams are recorded in a copy count register stack (234) in the data store. At the end of the copying run from the original document stack, these can be reloaded and a further run processed using the data from the store to produce those copies lost during the first run. In order to assist re-collation of the replacement copies into the set, blank sheets may be fed to the copy collection device in place of the copies lost by jamming.

Abstract: A servosystem for use, for example, in a scanning copying machine, comprises a motor (70a) within a closed loop also including a tachometer (23), sign and count logic (405), UP/DOWN counter (406), digital-to-analog converter (407), filter (408) and power amplifier (410). A counter (403) is employed to determine the velocity of motor (70a) by applying timed pulses to logic (405). The counter receives a sequence of integers from a table in microprocessor (100) through latches (404). When a particular integer is placed in the counter, it counts down in response to clock pulses from clock (401) until it generates a borrow pulse, which is the pulse applied to logic (405). At this time latches (404) are activated either to apply the same or a new integer into the counter. Thus the timing of the borrow pulses and, therefore the velocity of the motor, is determined by the values of a sequence of integers applied from the microprocessor.
