Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the method for storing data in a Palm OS-based hand-held device by dividing a key word included in each record and storing it as a resource type and a resource ID in resource information items which are included in the header of a resource database corresponding to the record. SOLUTION: It is decided whether there is a new data record to be stored in the hand-held device (120). When there is none, this process is ended, but when there is a new data record, a keyword is taken out of the record (130). The keyword is converted into a 6-byte long integer (140). The starting 4 bytes of the long integer are used as a resource type and the ending 2 bytes of the long integer are used as a resource ID, and data indexed by the key word are used as resource data and the contents of the data are put in a resource record (150). This new resource is added to the resource database (160). Those are carried out directly by the Palm device.
