Abstract: PURPOSE: To convert an optical pulse into an electric pulse that has high speed rise by forming a receiving means that receives a photoirradiation pulse and a set/reset flip-flop means which has a pair of cross-connected switching means on the same substrate. CONSTITUTION: An optical pulse is supplied to each switching device Q1 and Q2 in order to switch the devices Q1 and Q2 of a set/reset flip-flop 10 that has a pair of switching devices Q1 and Q2 between an ON state and an OFF state alternately. An optical input device or the gate of a FET transistor is integrated together with the devices Q1 and Q2 on a common substrate. Thereby, an optical pulse can be converted into an electric pulse that has high speed rise and small timing uncertainty.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To constitute a method and apparatus for writing a bar code in a continuous pattern by adding a step for marking a substrate so as to obtain a serpentine pattern having a connection segment for alternately linking data segments at both ends. CONSTITUTION: A series of connection segments for linking adjacent bar code data segments are used. These connection segments are set to the ends of the data segments to suitably connect the data segments vertically. However, the connection segments may be actually patterns such as circular arc patterns or the like corresponding to the continuous operation of a laser. In order to provide continuity to a writing path, the connection segments are alternately arranged so as to obtain a serpentine pattern. Further, in order to accurately start the laser operation to a substrate, especially, in such a case that the substrate is plastic or metal, the start segment vertically extending outwardly from one end of a first data segment is used. Therefore, the effect of laser irradiation on the substrate is continued to become uniform.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To realize a very short cycle time by using a method which converts an optical clock signal to an electric clock signal. CONSTITUTION: An optical pulse is synchronously divided into N independent optical fibers 18 by a 1/N light beam divider 16 and is divided again into M optical fibers by a 1/M light beam divider 20. This bundle of M optical fibers is coupled to each module 22 where delayed optical pulse signals from a pair of optical fibers are converted to corresponding electric clock signals, and this clock information is directly distributed to timing chips on modules but doesn't pass various passive elements having insufficient transmission characteristics, and therefore, the timing skew is minimized.
