    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively distribute a graphic function between a host computer and a graphic subsystem. SOLUTION: A depth, an alpha, a stencil, and other pixel data are stored in a system memory including one or plural auxiliary graphic buffers. A main processor 11 in a host system generates pixel data related to an image. Whether the data are to be stored in the auxiliary buffer or not is inspected. A mask is generated from a host system in accordance with a result of an inspection. In the case of a spun width and a color interpolation, a color base, color increment data and the X and Y addresses of a 1st pixel are combined as a mask and a mask is transferred to a graphics subsystem by a burst mode. In a subsystem, a mask is used together with other data in order to load a part of the pixel data regulated by a mask to a frame buffer.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the necessity of a high-performance graphics subsystem by branching graphics inplementation between a host computer and a graphics subsystem. SOLUTION: The graphics subsystem of a digital computer system 10 is composed of a graphics adapter 20. A host system 10A is provided with a memory controller 30 mutually connected with a main processor 11 and a main memory 12. This controller is provided for controlling the processing and storage of graphics information related to picture elements, which exist in the main memory 12, to be displayed. Namely, the memory controller 30 generates masked direct frame buffer access data structure, the host system 10A and the graphics subsystem are mutually connected through a bus 16, and this data structure is trarnsmitted from the host system 10A to the graphics subsystem.

    Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus and method of windowing a VGA image on a screen. The apparatus is a graphics adapter that contains a VGA controller 425, a rasterizer engine 420 and a frame buffer 430 having a displayable (432) and a non-displayable memory (434). The VGA controller stores, processes and retrieves VGA data from the non-displayable memory of the frame buffer and provides the data to the rasterizer engine for further processing such as to window the VGA image on a display screen. After processing, the accelerated graphics processor of the rasterizer engine 420 stores the VGA data as well as other graphics data in the displayable memory 432 of the frame buffer to be later displayed.
