Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems in a voice recognition system when a heurisitic command and control system is provided by predetermined voice commands for starting respective corresponding system and displaying a voice command in response to the detection of the voice command. SOLUTION: An inputted voice is sent to a recognition process for comparing it with a group of stored commands 52. When an actually command spoken is clearly identified, the voice command 55 is executed and then displayed on a display 38 through a display adapter 36. Or this voice command is displayed first and executed thereafter. When the voice input includes a item other than the actual command, the system uses a relation table 53 being set of inclusive items used in relation to normally stored actual commands 52.

Abstract: A data processing system is arranged to run a plurality of applications each associated with one or more windows under the control of a graphical user interface. The system comprises: a device 310 for displaying the windows; means 300 for receiving events entered by a user from a plurality of input devices 320-326; a device 380 for storing the user events in queues for subsequent processing by the applications; and control means for creating the queues and for directing the user events to selected queues. The system is characterised in that each input device is categorised as either a pointing device or a non-pointing device, and the queue control means comprises: means 350 for creating first and second sets of queues 360, 370, each queue in the first set being associated with a respective window, and each queue in the second set being associated with a respective non-pointing device; means 100 for directing each event entered via a pointing device to the queue in the first set which is associated with the window identified by that pointing device, and for directing each event entered via a non-pointing device to an open queue in the second set which is associated with that non-pointing device; and means 395 for transferring control of queues in the second set between the various windows as requested by the applications with which the windows are associated. By employing the above approach, the present invention uses a hybrid queue to handle user events in a GUI system. The problems associated with prior art techniques, for example, system lockup, extra user effort, and the inability to provide a 'type ahead' facility, are avoided.

Abstract: An interactive computer controlled display system with speech command input recognition and visual feedback includes means for predetermining a plurality of speech commands for respectively initiating corresponding system actions and means for providing for each command an associated set of speech terms, each term having relevance to its associated command. The system provides means responsive to a detected speech command for displaying the command, and means responsive to a detected speech term having relevance to one of the commands for displaying the relevant command. The system preferably displays the basic speech commands simultaneously along with the relevant commands. The means for providing the associated set of speech terms comprise a stored relevance table of universal speech input commands and universal computer operation terms conventionally associated with actions initiated by the input commands.

Abstract: A data processing system is described which issues value documents e.g. tickets or information under the control of output instructions and is designed to prevent a person attempting fraud using an unauthorized program obtaining the value documents or information. The system includes a data processor controlling output units which can issue value documents or information and data storage. The data storage is divided into a secure store containing the output instructions arranged to make tampering difficult and a free storage into which an operator may load a program. Security logic is provided to check that an output instruction has originated in the secure store and to prevent operation of an output unit which receives output instructions from free storage. This makes it difficult for a person attempting fraud to produce value documents or information by loading a program into free storage. The secure storage is preferably a read only store programmed during manufacture. When secure and free storage share a common memory bus, the security logic monitors addresses used to fetch instructions.
