Abstract: Impression control for an impact printer is provided by changing the width of the pulse applied to the print hammers in accordance with the thickness of the forms on which printing is being performed and in accordance with the voltage of the source energizing the print hammers, so as to maintain a constant impact force to provide uniform print density for different forms thicknesses. Misregistration of characters caused by a variation in the rate of movement of the print hammer is compensated for by changing the start time of the pulse energizing the hammer.

Abstract: 1403276 Printers INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 12 Feb 1973 [6 April 1972] 6757/73 Heading G4H [Also in Division B6] An ink droplet printer comprises droplet generation means 25, droplet deflection means 32, 33 and droplet charging means in the form of a plurality of charging elements 35 spaced along the path of travel of a droplet, selection of a charging element governing the position at which the droplet strikes a record medium 27. The charging elements 35 are supplied from a constant voltage source V 1 under control of shift registers 40-42 responsive to data input lines 43-45 and single shots 49-51 controlling phase synchronism. A phase maintenance system 47 responsive to a drop formation oscillator 29, drop charging pulses and phase sample pulses, for example one for each line printed, includes a logic box (54, Fig. 3, not shown) and controls the single shots 49-51.

Abstract: Control circuit for selectively enabling the energization of printing elements (25) in sequence in a print head (26) to achieve a more nearly constant current flow in the print elements (25) to thereby produce recorded marks of more uniform size. The formation of the print elements (25) into gated small groups (25-1...25-17; 25-2...25-18) reduces the maximum allowable current and, hence, the electromagnetic radiation. During traversal of the print head (26) along a print line, the lagging print element group (25-2...25-18) is enabled prior to the leading group (25-1...25-17) regardless of travel direction of the print head (26) in order to minimize the recording impedance for the energized print elements (25).

Abstract: 1. Apparatus for processing serial scan dotline data of a display device with a screen consisting of several scan dot lines for recording by a matrix printer on a record carrier, characterized in that the matrix printer comprises, in a manner known per se, a print head (17) with a left-hand and a right-hand column with respectively equidistant print elements (17), the print element columns being staggered relative to each other in such a manner that in a recording process where the print head and the record carrier are moved relative to each other in a line pass each print element prints one of p dot scan print lines with n scan dots each, that a randomly addressable memory (62) is provided to process the printing data, that the memory (62) is divided into an area (63) associated to the left-hand print element column, and an area (64) associated to the right-hand print element column, that each storage area (63, 64) is divided into successive fields, each field being associated to a print position of the print head on the record carrier for a recording pass, that each bit of a field is associated to a predetermined print element, that successively, with microprocessor (20) and counter control (37, 47), p scan dots are selected of each k-th screen line (k = 1, 2, 3, 4 to n) and transferred into a register (53A, 53B) with p stages, each register stage being associated to a print element in order to form, for each dot scan print line associated to the print head for a recording pass and to be recorded subsequently, the k-th bit information, that the contents of the register stages are transferable separately under clock control via gates (54A, 54B) for each print element column into the individual fields of the storage areas (63, 64), that following the loading of the storage areas (63, 64) with print data for a recording pass for each print position, the print data for the left-hand and right-hand print element column can be called up from the storage area fields corresponding to a print position, and that this processing for the respective subsequent p scan dots of the screen lines can be repeated until all screen scan dots have been printed.
