Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk drive device capable of effectively reducing the data amount of a defect map, a method for registering the defect map, etc. SOLUTION: The defect map generated as the position information of a defect sector on a recording disk constituting a hard disk drive device is registered with the position information of the start point of the defect sector, a PLBA (i), the number of tracks TCNT (i) where the defect sector continues in the radial direction of the recording disk, and the number of sectors SCNT (i) where the defect sector continues in the circumferential direction of the recording disk.
