Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease reading errors of a storage device due to the bus noises, which are caused when data are transferred between a host device and the storage device, by simultaneously discontinuing the transfer of data to the host device and the reading of data out of the storage device when a reading error is detected. SOLUTION: A control part 8 controls the total operation of a disk drive device via the execution of a control program and then performs the read/write control to a magnetic disk 1 based on the commands and data, which are supplied from an information processor (host device) 10 via a bus 7. Then the processor of the part 8 detects whether the reading of data executed by a read/ write system 5 has an error due to the noises of the bus 7. If a reading error occurs due to the noises of the bus 7, the transfer of data to the device 10 and the reading of data out of the disk 1 are simultaneously discontinued. Then only the reading of data is executed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method/device which can assure execution of an ERP (error recovery procedure) up to its last step regardless of the time needed up to the time-out of an instruction and can more surely recover an error. SOLUTION: A disk device carries out an ERP up to its last step or until an error is recovered with no interruption when a reset instruction is received during execution of the ERP. In another mode, the disk device stops execution of the ERP and also holds the number K of the step whose execution is over right before reception of a reset instruction when this instruction is received during execution of the ERP. Then the disk device successively carries out the ERP from the (K+1)th error recovery step when a retry instruction is received.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform data reassigning in a disk device. SOLUTION: In data reassignment processing for moving reading or writing error data in the disk device from an error generation sector position to an alternative region on a disk and recording this, the execution of data reassigning is decided by referring to the remaining capacity of the alternative region in order to efficiently use the alternative region. When the remaining capacity of the alternative region is large, the condition of data reassigning is relaxed and when there is not much remaining capacity, the condition of data reassigning is set strict, only data satisfying a particular condition is moved to the alternative region and for data other than this, only data recovery is performed according to an error recovery procedure(ERP). Thus, the too early disappearance of the alternative region is prevented.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to enhance throughput of a recording device at the time of accessing a data recording medium by discriminating a defect sector train consisting of plural defect sectors which satisfy prescribed conditions about a partial region in which an address is consecutive and is arranged or the corresponding alternate sector, and registering with the front address and a sector length in the defect map. SOLUTION: This disk device forms the primary defect map PDM (a) which individually registers physical block addresses D.ABA, of initial defect sectors. Subsequently, the disk device discriminates the defect sector train in which D.ABA is consecutive from the PDM (a) and which consists of the plural initial defect sectors existing in the same track, and forms a PDM (b) in which the defect sector train is registered with a front physical block address D.ABA.ST and a defect sector length D.LE in block. Subsequently, the D.ABA.ST is transformed into a pseudological block address F.LBA, and a PDM (c) is formed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To re-arrange the data of a defective sector caused in a storage medium of an information recording and reproducing device without losing the original data. SOLUTION: When any defect is generated in the sector of a user area 22, the data are saved to a substitute area 23, and when the defective sector is address-designated by a present LBA, the data of the substitute area 23 are read. A new LBA in which the defective sector is skipped is assigned to each sector of the user area 22. The data of the substitute area 23 are saved in an operating area for this execution. Then, X pieces of data are read from the rear part of the user area 22 according to the present LBA, and written according to the new LBA. The number of addresses is reduced only by the defective sectors in the new LBA than the present LBA for the same sectors so that the original data can be prevented from being lost at the time of writing. In the same way, the re-arrangement of data is repeated only for the X pieces of data.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it easy to analyze a hang state by monitoring the time in which an instruction received from an external device is executed, and saving information in a volatile memory to a nonvolatile recording means when the execution time of the instruction exceeds a specified time. SOLUTION: The pressing time in which the MPU 12 of a control part 5 executes the instruction received from an external host device 10, is monitored and when the execution of the instruction does not ends within a specified time, the contents of a RAM 14 as the volatile memory are saved in a reserved area on a magnetic disk 1 as the nonvolatile recording means. Consequently, the disk drive device can dump the contents of the RAM 14 in case of a hang state without requiring an indication from a host device 10. Therefore, even if a hang state that can not be controlled from the host device is entered, the hang state can easily be analyzed.

SOLUTION: The disk drive device is provided with a VCM (voice coil motor) spindle driver 12, a, magnetic head 13, an actuator mechanism 14 moving a head slider having the magnetic head 13 over the magnetic disk 11 surface and to a retreat position, a lamp block 15 and a CPU/HDC (hard disk controller) 16 controlling load/unload, controlling a speed of an actuator and controlling operation such as read-out/write-in, etc., of data for the disk 11. The CPU/HDC 16 receives a specified command issued from a host just before power off, executes this command operation, and then, executes the unload control and informs the host of command end after this unload control is ended.
