Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for adjusting an operation characteristic of a personal communication device. SOLUTION: This method for adjusting the operation characteristic of an audio station can include a series of steps. The method can include a step for receiving words uttered by a user from a generation source of a sound and a voice, and a step for detecting the position of the generation source of the sound and the voice relatively from the audio station. The method can also include a step for generating proximity degree data corresponding to the detected position, and a step for processing the received words uttered by the user by a selected signal processing technique based on the proximity degree data. The words uttered by the user can be discriminated from a background noise by the signal processing technique.
Abstract:
This invention relates to the adaptation of personal computers to communication through external networks, and more particularly to the ready adaptation of such computers to networks of varying characteristics, such as telecommunications networks located in various countries of the world. The adapter has first and second controllable digital/analog convertors for exchanging signals with a digital signal processor of the computer and controllable by a bus interface controller of the computer for converting signals between digital and analog forms. The adapter also has first and second connectors of the type required by the particular external network, coupled to the convertors for exchanging signals with the external network and for exchanging signals with an external device such as a telephone set.

IBM Docket No. BC 9-84-012 DISKETTE DRIVE AND MEDIA TYPE DETERMINATION Diskette media and drive determination in which a diskette controller attempts to read the diskette according to a variety of formats having, forinstance, different data transfer rates. A successful read is registered by the controller and that format is thereafter identified with the diskette drive and the diskette media inserted in the drive. BC9-84-012
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a form factor for a compact speech processin g module having a processor, high speed memory, a speech recognition engine, audio processing circuitry and a computing device interface to facilitate connection to a host device. The host device can be a handheld device (palm device or personal digital assistant), into which the compact speech module can be plugged. The compact speech module can process speech independently o f or in conjunction with the host device. Voice input commands processed by the speech module ca n be communicated to the host device to execute various tasks.

BC9-91-048 Persona Computer with Riser Connector for Alternate Master Alternate bus mastering is provided for a Family I computer system where an alternate bus master is connected to the computer system through a readily insertable and removable device card connected directly to the processor and memory of the computer system through a series of one or more pluggable inter-connecting cards for matingly engaging a computer system planar board connector.
Abstract:
DISKETTE DRIVE TYPE DETERMINATION Diskette drive determination in which a read/ write head in a diskette drive is instructed to move to a track that is inaccessible on one type of diskette drive. The head is then stepped back toward a track associated with a sensor indicating the positioning of the head over the track. The number of steps required to activate the sensor determines which type of diskette is being used.
Abstract:
Diskette media and drive determination mechanism in which a diskette controller attempts to read the diskette according to a variety of formats having, for instance, different data transfer rates. A successful read is registered by the controller and that format is thereafter identified with the diskette drive and the diskette media inserted in the drive.
