    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain picture display of uniform quality by eliminating nonuniformity of the thickness of a liquid crystal layer in the peripheral part of an effective display area. CONSTITUTION: In this production method for liquid crystal display device which controls the thickness of the liquid crystal layer by spacers 8, spacers 8 are used not only in the inside area of a peripheral seal area but also in the outside area of the peripheral seal area at the time of sealing glass substrates 2 and 4. Since an approximately uniform force is applied to all the surfaces of glass substrates in the sealing process of glass substrates, distortion caused in the peripheral part of the effective display area is reduced, and nonuniformity of the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the peripheral part of the effective display area is considerably resolved.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oriented membrane forming material whose pretilt angle is sufficiently changed but the electric characteristic is hardly changed by the emission of ultraviolet ray, its manufacture, an oriented membrane formed by use of this material, its manufacture, and a liquid crystal display device using this oriented membrane which never causes deterioration of liquid crystal, seize of picture element, or flicker. SOLUTION: Two kinds of polymers separated in the membrane thickness directions in the formation of an oriented membrane 42, or a first polymer 34 forming the main layer of a lower layer in the formation of the oriented membrane 42 and a second polymer 36 for forming a surface layer thicker than the main layer on the upper layer of the main layer are mixed. The first polymer 34 has a small change in electric characteristic by ultraviolet ray emission, and the second polymer 36 has a large change in pretilt angle by ultraviolet ray emission.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a high quality liquid crystal display panel in which appropriate cell inner pressure is maintained by a liquid crystal dropping method.
    SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display panel includes the steps of: forming an image display cell region 10 on a glass substrate 40; forming a plurality of dummy cell regions 1 (11) to 4 (14) to observe the inner pressure of the liquid crystal to be sealed in this image display cell region 10, on the same substrate as the image display cell region 10; dropping a liquid crystal onto the image display cell region 10 and the dummy cell region 1 (11) to 4 (14); laminating the glass substrate 40 with a second substrate to form an image display cell and dummy cells having the liquid crystal sealed in each of the image display cell region 10 and in the dummy cell regions 1 (11) to 4 (14), respectively; and predicting the state of the image display cell on the basis of the observation result of the dummy cell thus formed.
