Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide load beams having a small height size and excellent mechanical characteristics and to increase the number of sheets of the disks to be mounted and the number of heads by juxtaposing the side edges of these beams with reinforcing materials having the height not exceeding the height of the side edges nearly parallel therewith. CONSTITUTION: A base part 5 is provided with drawn rib parts 7 as the reinforcing members and the side edges 6 are bent nearly perpendicular to the plane of this base part 5. The side edges 6 are juxtaposed with these drawn rib parts 7 nearly parallel therewith at the height not exceeding the height of the side edges 6. The head suspension load beams 10 are coupled to a head actuator arm 9 by means of a mounting block 4. Then, the mechanical characteristics and more particularly rigidity of the load beams are not impaired even if the height size of the load beams is reduced to half the min. value of the conventional beams. As a result, the number of the sheets of the disks to be mounted and the number of the heads are increased without increasing the height size of the magnetic disk device.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve productivity by simultaneously initializing MR elements by a strong uniform magnetic field at a time point when an actuator head stack is constituted. CONSTITUTION: An MR sensor is formed on a vertical surface 31 of a slider 13 by an MR element 32 made of a ferromagnetic material and a lateral bias layer 38 made of a soft magnetic material, and has its air bearing surface ABS brought in close contact with a magnetic recording surface of a recording medium. In order to read magnetic recording on both sides of the recording medium, an actuator head stack is constituted by a pair of upper and lower MR sensors with air bearing surfaces ABS thereof facing each other. At this point, an initialized magnetic field H1 N1 T is applied by a strong uniform magnetic field of an electromagnet or the like, thereby simultaneously initializing the MR elements 32. That is, the upper and lower MR sensors have opposite directions of initialized magnetic field H1 N1 T. Thus, a wiring is so set that a sensor current I is in opposite directions in the upper and lower MR sensors, thereby obtaining an output of correct polarity.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a head suspension assembly and its manufacture in which a covered wire inserted through a tube is securely fixed by weak calking against the tube. CONSTITUTION: The head suspension assembly 10 is provided with a tube 5 which has plural covered wires 4 inserted and which is calked by a fixing means 6. A packing material 7 is filled between the covered wire 4 and the tube 5, with the filled part of the tube 5 calked. The fixing means 6 is desirably a lug part for calking provided in the head suspension assembly. It is also desirable that the tube 5 is light-transmissive and that the packing material 7 is capable of photosetting.
