Abstract: In a disk drive actuator head stack assembly, magnetic transducers including magnetoresistive (MR) read heads are connected to a current source and configured to provide an MR sensor current to each MR head wherein the direction of current flow for the MR sensor current in each MR head is the same relative to the actuator for all of the MR heads in the actuator head stack. This configuration allows all of the MR heads in the head stack assembly to initialized simultaneously by applying a homogeneous magnetic field to the head stack assembly, thus providing the capability of initializing the MR heads at the actuator or disk drive level rather than requiring that the MR heads be initialized individually.

Abstract: The inside wall of a head/disk enclosure is given a surface broad enough to adsorb and release easily a large amount of water vapor. In a first embodiment, the inside surface is treated by anodic oxidation using oxalic acid. In a second embodiment, the inside surface is treated with sodium carbonate and sodium chromate. In a third embodiment, the surface was etched with acid. The water adsorption capability acts as a buffer to prevent extremes of relative humidity within the enclosure.

At this time, it comprises a step for executing a first error restoring procedure 103, a step for executing a first GMR evaluating procedure 109 for evaluating the performance of the GMR sensor when the operating error is not restored in the first error restoring procedure and a step 117 for impressing a reset pulse to the GMR sensor in accordance with the first GMR evaluating procedure.

When the device power source Vcc is turned off and a voice coil motor (VCM) driver 12 stops operating, a power source OFF is detected by a power source OFF detecting circuit 21 and retract delay time Td is provided by a retract delay circuit 22. After the lapse of the retract delay time Td from the OFF of the device power source, switch circuits 24 and 25 are turned on by a retract driving circuit 23, the retract capacitor Cr charged with the boost voltage Vup is discharged, a discharging current is supplied to a voice coil 5a and a head assembly is retracted.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a joning method enabling the joining of a flex cable and a circuit board which cannot be embodied with ordinary connectors on account of their dimensional restrictions in a hard disk device of an extremely small size/thin type and the hard disk device utilizing the same. SOLUTION: This joining method is the method for joining the flex cable 3 for transmitting the input and output signals to a head formed in a device body 1 of a hard disk and the circuit board 11. A groove part 2 is formed in the device body 1 and the connector 12 consisting of a projecting part of a shape insertable into the formed groove part 2 is formed at the circuit board 11. The joining part of the flex cable 3 and the connector 12 of the circuit board 11 are inserted into the groove part 2. The terminal 13 of the connector 12 and the terminal 4 of the joining part of the flex cable 3 are joined. The hard disk device has the joining part utilizing the joining method described above.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method in which an initialization of a great magneto resistance(GMR) head and a reset are executed and to provided the device for executing the method. SOLUTION: The yield of the GMR head is improved by executing the initialization, in which the magnetization direction of the free layer of the GMR head (mounted on the hatched surface of a slider 14) is directed by an external magnetic field, and is executed in the opposite direction again. Moreover, a discrimination is made to determine whether the magnetization direction of a pin stopping layer of the head is temporarily reversed or not and damaged GMR head is selected in an early stage. Then, the magnetization direction of the layer is returned in a positive direction, a semi-static test is conducted to check the reproduced response of the head and a safe efficient reset is executed. The reset is conducted by not only applying a pulse but also is executed while applying an external magnetic field in the pin stopping direction or only applying a strong magnetic field. Note that a tool 500 is commonly used throughout the process levels for an initialization, a reset and a reproducing response.
