Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the link capacity which is required to one or more attendant terminals by making an attendant terminal other than its own one receive directly the media streams from an optional terminal and a multi-point distributor other than its own one that joins in a distributed multi-point conference system. SOLUTION: This system comprises the attendant terminals 31-33, and the terminal 31 is related with a multi-point distributor(MD) 30. The terminals 32 and 33 excluding the terminal 31 related to the MD 30 transmit directly the media streams 32', 32", 33' and 33" to other terminals. The terminal 31 is supported by the MD 30. In other words, the terminal 31 does not transmit (N-1) media streams and transmits only a single stream 31' to the MD 30. The MD 30 distributes again the stream 31' to the terminals 32 and 33 via the streams 30' and 30".

SOLUTION: This method/system includes a step to monitor continuously the subscriber terminals when every subscriber terminal changes from a call presence state to a call absence state (a), a step to produce a 1st signal when the subscriber terminal changes from the call presence state to the call absence state (b), a step to monitor a period covering from the start of the 1st signal (c), a step to produce a 2nd signal when a prescribed period τ passes in the period (d) and a step to enable both 1st and 2nd signals to access the presence systems which are connected to each other (e).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for setting up a communication session between a calling person and a called person by outputting related information or the title of a session by the output device of the called person and alarming the called person that an incoming call arrives. SOLUTION: A calling person 1 speaks a calling related statement, and the calling related statement is shown on a calling device 7. Even though a setup message 10 having calling related information 3 is subjected to path designation through a network 6, the message 10 does not reach a called device 8 yet. The information 3 is made to pass through the network 6, and an output of an alarm signal 11 including the calling related statement is shown to a called person 2 by using an output unit 5. The devices 7 and 8 are connected through the network 6, and the persons 1 and 2 are connected through communication. Telephone calling 9 is established, the status of the calling 9 becomes connection and communication through the network 6 is started.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an apparatus and method for adapting a transmission parameter in a transmitting node of a data communication system to the current link quality of a data communication channel. The adapted transmission parameter is selected by the transmitting node from a set of transmission parameters in dependence on a number of successful transmissions. The number of successful transmissions is compared in the transmitting node against one of a first threshold value corresponding to a first state of the transmitting node and a second threshold value corresponding to a second state of the transmitting node. The method comprises in the transmitting node the steps of (a) counting the number of successful transmissions; (b) selecting the adapted transmission parameter (bl) in response to the number of successful transmissions equaling or exceeding the first threshold value when the transmitting node is in the first state, and (b2) in response to the number of successful transmissions equaling or exceeding the second threshold value when the transmitting node is in the second state; and in dependence of the result of a following transmission, operating the transmitting node in one of the first state and the second state.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an apparatus and method for adapting a transmission parameter in a transmitting node of a data communication system to the current link quality of a data communication channel. Abstract: A teleconferencing system 10 comprises one or more telecommunication systems 1;2;3, and two or more subscriber terminals 61;71 connected to said telecommunication systems. An electronic computing means 4 is connected the telecommunication systems of the teleconferencing system. The electronic computing means, which is typically a server-type computer, runs a conference initiating program 5. Means is provided for supplying an availability signal based on presence information associated with each subscriber terminal. The availability signal is accessible to the server. The telecommunication systems cooperate with the conferencing initiating program to initiate a conference between the subscriber terminals. The program 5 initiates a conference between the subscriber terminals by attempting transmission of a conference call when such call is requested by any of said subscriber terminals. The conference call is transmitted to each subscriber terminal as soon as its associated availability signal indicates availability of that terminal.
