Abstract:
Systems and methods of identifying and processing complex text are provided. If a presentation data stream contains a complex text string, a preselected control in the presentation data stream is inserted before the complex text string. A first parameter has a value indicating a control type for controlling processing of complex text, and a second parameter takes one or more values for enabling and disabling the processing of complex text. In processing complex text, responsive to a first predetermined type of control in a presentation data stream, if the first type of complex text processing is enabled, this processing is applied to a complex text string succeeding the first predetermined type of control in the presentation data stream. The first predetermined type of control includes a first parameter represented by a corresponding value for controlling the first type of complex text processing.

Abstract:
A system and method of transforming information between UCS and EBCDIC-friendly representations comprises a two-stage transformation process usi ng a first stage which transforms a UCS string to and from an intermediate form string, ref erred to as an I8-string. A second stage transforms the I8-string to and from a string in an EBCDIC-friendly representation. The two stages employ transformations which result in control characters and other selected characters being represented as single octets in t he I8 and EBCDIC-friendly strings and the transformations are symmetric in both stages. Th e second stage can produce EBCDIC-friendly strings in one or more selected EBCDIC encodin gs.
Abstract:
A computer system is described that is capable of transmitting and displaying files containing variable locale selectors, that is, language, territory and coded character set identifiers. The system contains a code that is transmitted as part of the files, and includes information defining the language and the territory, which are alphanumeric variables normally encoded in binary format, and the coded character set, which is normally encoded as a numeric decimal format. The discrete values of known combinations of these codes are listed, preferably in a lookup table, and each known set of coded values is given a unique hexadecimal value. The hexadecimal value is retained with the subject file and used by a user interface adapter to display the information in the file according to the desired set of locale selectors.
Abstract:
CODE PAGE IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM This disclosures relates to a comprehensive method of codifying the different encoding schemes that are used for graphic character representation, resulting in a single identification mechanism that is used in conjunction with a corresponding registry to simply and uniquely identify the scheme used. The mechanism comprises such a short form identifier having the capability of acting as a short form (alias) for its corresponding list of component identifiers; acting as a short form for a collection of specific component identifiers having a specific property; allowing special meanings to be conveyed in relation to tagging of data with the code identification; and allowing bridging to existing systems that use only some components of the code identification.
